so i just bought an Ashdown ABM 500 RC EVO II.
any suggestions on a pre-amp?

I am looking at the ABM RPM-1 EVO II pre-amp.

who all has one of these amps and what pre-amps do you have and why do you like them?

just looking for some expert opinions

If you don't know WHY you need to buy it, you don't need to buy it. Simple as that. All you need is a bass and an amp/speaker. Everything else is optional. And dynamics and control are supposed to come from you, not the equipment. Play what you have for a while. It's a good rig.

wouldn't this give me more dynamics and control?

No. It will give you more noise, complication, weight, bulk, and probably unwanted distortion. The head has a preamp built in already. Learn how to use its controls, learn its strengths and limitations, and then -and only then- look into upgrading any specific features that it may be lacking. It may not be lacking anything- but either way, you don't know yet.

BTW "dynamics" is not something that a preamp can give you. You create dynamics with your hands. A compressor can reduce or alter those dynamics, but that's something you need to study before deciding you need it.

I completely agree with all of the post above. I am deff going to be finding it's sweet spot and whatnot. I was just looking for some feedback. I have seen a couple of pros use the setup and I was curious as to why and what the benefits were.

anyways....thanks guys.

this amp by the way.....bad to the bone!
