Pre-CBS Fender Basses.. Let's See Em

I wish I could call this one mine. I saw this at the Great American Guitar Show outside of Philly over the summer. IIRC, Kebo's Bass Works was selling this incredible Firemist Silver Precision. Not certain about the exact year, although I do recall it being pre-CBS

Good grief. That is amazing. Thanks for posting that one!

Happy to share the pic! But I only saw the Firemist Silver P-Bass because of Kebo's Bass works. It just so happens that he still has this particular Precision in stock. I also need to correct myself, because it's a 1966. So technically, it isn't Pre-CBS. :hmm:

Part of the reason seems to be that the rarity of this particular finish makes it that much more desirable on the vintage market. And I have seen some similarly priced basses in rare finishes. I recall seeing a charcoal frost metallic '65 Jazz bass that was priced in the same ballpark.

I know that I've never seen this particular color anywhere else, but it gave me such an appreciation for this particular shade of silver. I think it looks INFINITELY better than Inca Silver, and it's got this tinge of blue to it that just gives it that something extra that pops out.

That's the one! I sure wish I could have pulled it together for that one. I had the funds but my wife has been bogging me about getting our bathrooms remodeled. Guess which won out?

It was a once in a lifetime bass in that clean of condition and all original everything. It's in good hands now though.

Love the 66 charcoal frost j as well.

Thanks!

Well, I hope the bathroom remodel was in charcoal frost!

Lol! Well my BR will be grey. :)

Lol.

I believe Firemist Silver replaced Inca Silver in 1965. A lot of collectors still consider '65 to still be pre-CBS, so I'm guessing that's probably what that one is. It has clay dots though, so the neck may be a '64. But regardless, it's beautiful!

That was me! It lives in Italy now. I miss that one..
