QSC - PLX-3402, 700 watts @ 8 ohm 1100 @ 4ohm.

I got a an insanly sweet deal on this one through an inside connection. (A guy I grew up with) so Its the one I went with.

You might not need all that power for your situation and they do make less powerful units.

or if you're more into a modern old school sound, Aguilar: either two GS112s or a GS112 + GS210 (Genz-Benz are good also).

I own a number of cabs and rigs. But, all things considered, the one I like the best is a Demeter 201S, Stewart World 2.1, Bergantino HT115 and Bergantino HT210. Clean and powerful. Great clarity and very light for what it offers. Mono-bridged into 4 ohms, the Stew gives me 2100 watts which is enough to really wake up those Bergs. Even on an outdoor stage, this rig kicks major booty. :cool:

Boogie, how different would you think that the HT-210 would sound with the HT-112, from your rig, with the 115? I recently snagged a pair of HT-112's and I was just thinking about other combinations.

Back to the topic....I have two PLX's and have been very happy with both. Also by going with the pre/power amp setup I'm able to run either an Alembic F1-X or a Demeter 201 in the same rack. And if the darn Demeter wasn't that extra half space I'd probably stick a Kern or an Aguilar in there also. I guess I'm just a preamp ho! :D

Man, I dunno, Jerry! The HT112 is sorta clumsy to employ with the other cabs because of that handle on the top and its size. If you sit it on top you can't really balance a rack on it. And it's too small to sit under the 210. I use mine exclusively by itself in small rooms and I mount it on a Carvin amp stand that tilts back. It kills! But to speculate...I don't think it would have the fatness of the 15, the HT115 and HT210 are just magical together, especially in a big room or outside. I played an outdoor gig yesterday on a medium-sized covered stage and it just ruled! The 12 and the 15 might be cool together, tho. Probably a bit less punchy than the 210, however.

Hey Boog,
I always put my rack on top of my HT112. Just put a piece of 1/2" or even 1" foam sheeting under the rack, and your golden. Just used my two Baby Bergs HT/EX/Aualex Gramma/rack on top, this weekend and got rave reviews for my sound. Even the bandmates chimed in.

I might get a Berg 115 for the bottom of my HT322 just for kicks.

Big String, do you find that you get a bit of rock and sway because of the handle on top or the baby Berg's?

I just thought about it and I'm thinking that I can just turn them sideways with the handles on the side. Then no more swaying.:hmm:

For me, the power amp that kills is a Stewart World 2.1. It's actually two amps in one.

Preamps: as Brian Barrett said, lots of great ones to choose from.

I've been using an Alembic F2B since around 1985. It's nothing fancy, just great tube phatness.

I've also owned a tc electronics 1140 parametric equalizer preamp since the late 80's. Doesn't have tube magic, but it's clean and quiet and tone-shaping is pretty much unlimited.

The SansAmp Bass Driver DI has lots of tube-like goodness in a tiny box. I typically use it as a stompbox, but have used it as a preamp.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Ampeg SVP-Pro which just arrived on my doorstep today! If it sounds as good as the preamp of my SVT3Pro (and I'm sure it will), I'll be happy.

Tops on my preamp wish list is the Kern IP777... it apparently has the phatness of my Alembic pre with more tone-shaping capability.

If your using a slippery SKB rack like me, the HT112 is too small to accomdate the SKB or likes of even with handle off because of the locking corner pieces. Thats were the layer of foam insulation or like will fill the gaps. Mine is very stable that way. I use a piece of 1" black foam insulation, plus it dampens any vibration. My Aualex Gramma is to small for the top so I use it for it's intended purpose under the cabs to decouple. Great Focus.
