preamp...

will there be a change on how will your bass sounds if you change your preamps? will it give you more bass and treble?
crisp sound?

because..im going to buy a bass..and i have already made my choice..it will be a lakland 55-02. but im just going to ask my friend who is in canada, to buy that and bring it here in UAE.

im thinking also of asking him also to buy me a preamp, choosing aguilar or audere, but dont know what model for this lakland 55-02.

so what do you think should i choose between those two preamps?
anyone here have done changing their lakland 5502 bass preamps using either of the two brand audere or aguilar?
share your impressions..thanks..

Changing the pream will change the sound.

I would only change the preamp if I didn't like the sound. My current bass had a cheap nasty preamp and pickups so I replaced with barts and a Aguilar OBP-3. They work well. If it were me I would wait and listen to the bass you may/should like the sound of a 55-02.
The Agiular will fit that configuration I don't know enough about the audere. If I had a 55-02 and had to choose between the two I'd be lookng into the audere.

Brian at best bass gear would be a good place to look.

The tonal changes made by most preamps when set flat are subtle at best. The Audere is a bit different because of the loading scheme, but that's not hard to implement either.

Go for the one that gives you the features you want at the price you are willing to pay.

Most definately; a preamp will change the sound. As mentioned above; not so much when it's set flat. The Glockenklang pre is a great sounding upgrade to any bass. The cool thing about the Glock; when it's set flat, it has the least coloring of any active pre I've heard. It doesn't boost the output at all when it's set flat. It lets the pickups do their thing as if they were straight up passive. When you start to dial things in, the preamp comes alive. I have a few BEE basses that have the BEE PRE. Those sound great. They're dead quiet. Tons of versatility. It's hard (for me )to choose which one is better; the Glock or the BEE PRE?......both are great.
