P bass is warm and bassy, with crisp highs and that signature growl. Nothing sounds quite like a Fender P

J bass is warm and bassy, with crisp highs and that signature growl. Nothing sounds quite like a Fender J

+1

And +1 to having both. :bassist:

Neither one is good for metal so what does it matter.

Respectfully of course, have you tried either one for metal? A drummer friend asked me to sit in on some metal sessions and I used my Fender Pbass V with flats and no pick... and EVERYONE commented on how awesome it sounded.

Personally, I've never tried a Jazz in a metal setting, but it certainly works for Tim Commerford. :)

well, you cant really search because "P" is too short, "Jazz" is too short, "vs" is too short, so really the only word you could search would be precision, which would give way too many threads :/

Advanced search: "Precision Jazz" (in title only) will get you there. Or the TalkBass Google search "Precision vs Jazz".

However, this thread shall not pass.

Sorry- not only does this pop up constantly, but you CAN search the word "jazz" (not to mention "p vs. j" in the Google search), and it's also in our Newbie Links thread stickied up top.
