Premium price for premium sound?

what's the best groundhog for metal?
robot-groundhog.jpg

so recently, I saw this form that has something to do with squiers being good values, and his premium price is really worth it for premium quality. I replied on the form seeing that in my opinion, Squiers are a better value because they essentially sounded the same as fenders in my opinion. Someone replied to my comment, saying "yes. The sound is essentially the same. It's that darn fender sticker were paying for." Which I kind of sensed it was sarcasm. But seriously guys. Premium price for premium sound? Or do people just seem to have more money than sense these days?
Here's a solution. Simply don't buy Fender/Squier, Gibson/Epiphone, Music Man/Sterling, Rickenbacker, Warwick, Ibanez, Yamaha, Hofner, etc.
Don't buy anything people talk about day to day here from botique basses right down to SX.
Buy one of these, instead. Most people won't even know what to make of it.

I stopped by 8th Street Music in Pennsauken, NJ just five minutes from Guitar Center (a well-stocked GC) and Sam Ash in Cherry Hill.
This shop is amazing. I was looking for a Dean Exotica bass and was told that I could get a new one for $50 off the GC price. I bought an Ampeg SCR DI the other day on sale...with tax $188.31. Not the biggest bass selection (maybe only 20 basses) but it's essentially a warehouse with a small shop in front.
I saw this bass hanging up and while I was waiting for the sales clerk to grab a Roland Micro Cube from the warehouse I tried this out.
I seldom play before plugging in but I did with this and I was surprised by how good it sounded. When I did plug it in I fooled around with it for quite some time.
Damn, isn't anyone aware of this thing?
Very impressive tone, incredibly smooth neck, and a somewhat modern take on a classic body style that looks great.

By the way, I bought this glove-soft leather strap for $48!

Oh, no, it doesn't have this logo on it, what will people think?

You're not the only one on this board. Maybe other people actually spend more time elsewhere and don't have time to keep up with TB trends, like you.
The difference is people who want attention vs people who want information. Posting threads before searching... Like people who always talk and never listen. If people really wanted an "answer" they could read a bit and, if still uninformed, come up with better questions and further general bass knowledge. Instead, people like having that little red icon pop up when they log in...

These TB trends are easy enough to see. There, I said it.

They might be easy to see, but with my plate of school and work, I don't have enough time to read most forms on the site. It's like if people are going to comment on my form only to complain about something that's not even related to the form at all, then don't comment on it.

Guys. I'm not asking if low price will equate to best in class quality. I'm asking if you think shelling out extra money for a certain rig is really worth it or if you think a low price for good value is good enough.:rollno:
Good enough for what????? :rollno:

Go and listen for yourself and then you can make up your own mind.;) It's really a silly question. Too many variables. If someone makes $200K a year, an extra $1,000 probably doesn't mean anything. If someone makes $30K a year then an extra $200 might not be worth it.

If you think the extra money is worth it, or if you think it's not, either way you are right.

Yeah, those Hagstroms are awesome. I'd take one of them, no hesitation. :)

Look at your thread count and frequency (not posts, but threads you've created). You can't tell me you have time to post all those "questions" and wait for answers to roll in and not enough time to do a basic search.

Maybe. And maybe after you've been here for more than a few weeks you too will start to get annoyed by hot-button topics being posted over and over again by the same people who should actually be spending more time elsewhere (like playing their bass) rather than generating "trends" on Talkbass. But hey, thanks for reminding us that there's more than two people on this board.

But but but, I like making snide witty retorts with silly images!
Sa·cré bleu! There are three people on this board? Who are you sir, to mock these insightful inquiries that arrive week-after-week-after-week? Have you no shame?

If you can't tell a significant difference between a Squier and a Fender then you are a fool to pay extra for the Fender.

...although...

The funny thing about human perception is that we tend to see, hear and feel what we are already biased to believe before we actually see, hear and feel a thing. So if you think Fender is better than Squier (or vice versa) you will almost cetainly confirm that belief when you test that out. We like to believe we are purely objective in our senses but very very VERY few of us are. There's lots of video proof and scientific studies on the internet to back this up.

So if you CAN tell a difference one way or the other you might still be a fool anyway.

Buy whatever the hell you want and stop worrying about it.
