I watched a video of a tour of the Corona factory. Mexican employees, amongst others, were present (actually, quite a few). It made me chuckle because I thought of that very same trope.
I owned an MIM. Called it "el bajo de mí gente" (the bass of my people). I'm half Mexican, so I thought it appropriate.
Well more expensive stuff do have some qualities to them that you wouldn't find in cheaper stuff. Or you can find option you couldn't dream of in cheaper basses or you may want expensive woods and pre-amp instead of buying a 200$ bass and putting 400$ of mod on it ...
Maybe I just like to create conversations with people rather than read them. Maybe I just like to hear opinions. I like to know things. Trust me I'm studying it right now and those guys REALLY ask allot of questions. This is an opinionated question. Just like my other posts.stop complaining and just answer my question.
You are probably right. Some bass guitars do make good collectors items! Others just buy them just to play them and don't really care how much they're worth in the future, kind of like myself.

I think his point was how well the bass holds up after 20 years of use, not so much the collectors value of the bass.
Get a sense of humor and take things here with a grain of salt. I get ribbed also. That is what makes TB entertaining. Take offense at nothing.
Oh. I thought you were talking about the value of the base after 20 years. I totally agree with you on how long it lasts after 20 years, but usually I think that thats more regarding how the owner takes care of it

Some of them were promoted to supervise the operation in Mexico, during the transition from it being Squier factory to a Fender sub brand.
So the humour, although seemingly tasteless , is truly complimentary. When Corona in fact has some of the rough basics for the low end of the US models performed in MX, and some of the finish work involving nitro is done there also due to AQMD restrictions in Ca. The line is truly blurry . So even though it may "seem" dispariging, it is simply a truism
and should be considered complimentary in light of the facts

I agree. I have a square and fender, and I actually prefer the Squires sound wise, and both of my biscuit tires are a part of my bedroom set up. It was the best I could afford it I like it
OP, my opinion is different than yours. I can see many nice looking squiers at gc and sam ash but there is something more important than that. But I don't want to talk about that. On the other hand my 194 yo $30K double bass sounds much better than john Patitucci's Pollmann, really!! That said, (off topic) IMO cats are faster than dogs (i am dead serious!)! Oh, my popcorn is here but the beer is in the fridge! Going to get one right now!!

I have more than a few Levy's straps, but I have to admit I never even noticed that they have a logo on them. Thanks for pointing it out.
Also, in seriousness..to answer your question. I was looking at a MIA P. I can afford it, if i want. But when i played it I couldnt see the $1k difference to the Matt Freeman sig i ended up getting ($379)....the sound was amazing on the MIA but i put that down to the pups, not the hardware. As it didnt 'feel' any better than the cheaper bass. So for $800 less i figured i could get the same sounding, playing bass with the Squier and additional upgrades.
In saying that tho, i am not a recording musician, my ear is not as refined. Perhaps those that know better than I could find the $1k difference.
I think that's the thing to think about. What do you need right now? Are you DIing into a big rig or just learning. Why spend the money if the increases in quality are getting lost in your technique/amplification setup?
