Price Check: Bergantino HS410

That’s a great deal, put some wheels on the bottom if it doesn’t have them already. One of the best 410s ever made, it pairs especially well with tube amps.
If that was in Illinois you'd have to race me to it!
(Make ya a deal, you get it and it proves to heavy, you bring it out to Illinois, I'll trade you my 44 lb. Berg CN212 for it...)

Driving over to look at it tomorrow...we'll see. Price is right but *dang* the weight. It does have casters.

I've owned and gigged with two Berg cabinets, a NV610 and presently a CN212.
Sold the 610 afew years back because it's 100 lbs., (and I'm getting old and lazy.) Selling it was the biggest equipment mistake I've made!
I've got my fingers crossed that Jim B. will continue with the new 410T, diangle/vertical design and extend it's range by going into a ported NXT410 version.
If I buy it, I'll probably stick it in our rehearsal space (gasp!) and pull the HyDrive 4x10. Give it a "day of beauty" and sell it to a local kid on-the-cheap. I figure there's an up 'n coming rocker on a limited budget who will appreciate the hardware. Come to think of it, I have a cast-off RMX 1450 I'll add to the deal just to free-up some storage space.
I have both a Quilter 803 and EBS Reidmar 750 which will pair nicely with the HS410.

It was a lovely day for the round-trip drive and the seller was really nice, but....
I passed on the HS410 as it was far too lively and shrill when mated with my EBS Reidmar. Had to dial-in some heavy-handed HF attenuation and compression to get things under control. Hey, different strokes....

My experience with the Bergantino cabs I've owned is that they are very accurate and balanced across the full frequency range. I doubt audiophiles would consider them HiFi, but I've used my HD210 cabs as music PA to great effect in the past. I'm thinking the drivers in the HS410 will be very similar to those in the HD210.

Indeed, they are great, full-range cabs. Here are some pics from the era of the "Berg PA," which lasted several years (and sounded great!).

If everything in the Berg was original and working as they should, I'd have to agree with SparkyM., the Berg cabs are very accurate and reflect the voicing of whatever amp is being used through them.
Every Berg I've played through that was horn equipped the one thing that stood out (to me) was their sweet and balanced highs.
Your hearing "shrill" makes me wonder if changes/repairs have been made sometime.
Another thought was it could be the amp head you auditioned the cab with.
I've somehow managed to acquire four class D amps, a GK MB Fusion 800, GK MB2-500, GK MB-500, and a Genz 9.0.
Each head has a different personality through my CN212. The Berg brings out the best, (and the worst), of each one of my amps and they have to be adjusted accordingly.
Through the CN212 the MB500...sounds good, the MB2-500...very good, the MB Fusion 800...great, the GB 9.0...freaking great.
Through my two, 210 cabs and the way they're tuned, the GK MB Fusion 800 is the one that sounds freaking great with the GB 9.0 being very good.

We actually test all our cabs with full range music before anyone plays a note thru them. It’s all about bringing forth the tone of the bass and player (and amp of course) without trying to impart its own tone on the signal. Of course every speaker and speaker combination is going to impart its characteristics on the final tone, but that’s only after the fact that they are designed to proper engineering standards and not trying to coax any specific tone out of them. This, and a properly designed crossover if tweeter equipped, is the recipe for a balanced, accurate, and musical speaker and what we strive for in all of our designs.
Do you remember which Berg cabs you used?
I remember those days that you documented and always wondered which specific Bergs they were.

These were mostly HT series cabs. I have a pair of one-off 1x15" subs (in "HT Large" boxes), and I would typically use a mix of HT310's, HT212's, HT210's, and HT115's. I believe a pair of HT112's was involved at one point, too. Later, I used an IP112 (and EX112) for vocal monitors, and this worked splendidly. I used an IP212 for a monitor for my drummer a couple of times, but it was massive overkill.

I remember the great story you told me regarding your sound guy giving you a hard time for using bass cabs for your main PA. After running his test CD thru the FOH and walking around and adjusting his eq, he ended up on perfectly flat! ;-}

Yeah, he is a good friend, and he was really giving me some grief. Later, he just shook his head and said something like, "I don't understand it, but damn, it sounds good!"
