Progressive Rock...That ROCKS

Closure in Moscow (Pink Lemonade album), The Fall of Troy (these guys rock and just dropped their first album in 7 years), The Sound of Animals Fighting, Circa Survive (slower emo though).

My favorite active band is a japanese crossover, math-rock progish band but they don't have many long songs: Ling Toshite Shigure / Ling tosite sigure. Here is their longest song if your interested.

It starts slow but picks up and ends crazy. This is the majority of the song as I could not find the full version on the internet.

Try Pandora radio. I recently heard Chon. Progressive but super clean. Put em in Pandora and similar bands came up. But some a lot heavier. Animals as Leaders was one that stuck out.

Point being, I find some new music through this method. Create a station using a band or song you like and as you thumbs up or down certain tracks it plays more of what you want. This doesn't always work but worth a shot.

That's a great song.

The Beatles are one of those bands that I've been meaning to check out extensively but haven't gotten around to yet. I've liked just about every song I've heard throughout the years on the radio, in documentaries, or on YouTube but I've never listened to a single Beatles album in its entirety. I'll do that One of These Days.

It's really amazing how great they are. I have their discography in my car's hard drive, and there was something like 230 songs in total, and I've only deleted like a dozen of the songs because the rest are so good. And to think that they did it in only 7 or 8 years (or whatever it was) is incredible.

Their earlier stuff is more in the lines of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", but they really experimented a lot (and cleary influenced (and some would argue directly started) a lot of sub-genres including prog and heavy metal) as they went on.

Anyways, I don't want to turn this into a Beatles thread.

@Herrick you may try Triumvirat as well, a German band heavily influenced by ELP.

Illusions On A Double Dimple is their greatest effort, in my opinion. Don't let the acoustic guitar intro fool you.... Also, I may get some flack for saying this, but I actually prefer this album over any ELP album.

There are very few Beatles songs I don't like. And from a certain point in their career on, every song is its own style and piece. I can see how they aren't for everyone, but there's a reason they are still loved to this day.

Almost every prog rock band I know has been listed... So how about something you may have not heard. Solstafir are a journey, soft, rock as heck, metal as hell, and classical mixed into every album.

I like Blackwater Park and I really like various songs from their other albums (Heir Apparent, The Moor, April Ethereal). I always thought the Death Metal vocals mixed with clean vocals was a cool element, as well as the acoustic stufff mixed in. Butt for whatever reason, most albums in their entirety don't do it for Herrick :/

And there's really no excuse to have such a weak bass guitar presence on albums where the guitars really aren't that heavy and thick.

I listened to a few random tracks from bands on Invalid Link Removed but a lot of it sounded quite light. I'm a big Metal fan but I'm not necessarily looking for anything that has any overt Metal influences.

Basically what I'm looking for are prog bands that combine the energy and hard rock level of Rush's 2112 with the aggression of Tool and the grandness of some Yes & Dream Theater works.
