My self-esteem took a nose-dive when I found out that kind of material my boyfriend looks at. Then the whole starvation thing, obsession with surgery, pills blah blah blah happened and it's still rough. He rarely views it now and he's focused on me, telling me I'm beautiful etc. and it helps but it'll always be something I struggle with.
Single Dad Laughing wrote an entry on
Worthless women and the men who make them and while I do not think it's as well written as it could be and I do not necessary agree with everything he has said in the entry, I do know that women feel absolutely horrible for not being the 'ideal' in their men's eyes and that in itself creates a lot of mental issues and self-hate.
I find Magazines and print are a lot worse than videos in the way it illustrates women simply because every single image has been photoshopped to death, and young men in some of my classes (and some young women) believe what they see is real. These boys won't settle for anything less than a cover girl and the girls won't stop until they look like the cover girl.
I kind of went off on a tangent, but its been sitting on my mind lately.
