Punting infants is a dirty game

You forgot to add the "in my opinion" in there somewhere. That's your opinion and I respect it. I vehemently disagree with it, but I respect it.

Ah sorry, I have a huge problem with sticking IMO in my posts. Not trying to be a jerk, my fault.

So if that was your child, you would still take that approach?

There is no excusing what he did. Society does not need nor want people who go out the way to do such harm. We are the barbarians and he is the one with humanity? Yeah, that's right

What he did is horrible. But he is not guilty until proven otherwise. Every human deserves a fair trial as said by the Bill of Rights, end of discussion.

But you're right we should just torture this guy til his last breath without a trial. It would essentially destroy the rights of anyone ever to be arrested, but whatever, we must have our blood!!!!!!!

And as for bringing my unborn child into this, I'm not going to think about what I would do... There's a separate thread where everyone discusses the angriest they've ever been, but how they are glad their emotions didn't get the best of them. I'm sure a lot of you have posted in there. Maybe you should take your own advice. Please

Vengeance is a slippery slope. It saddens me to see some of the posts in this thread. Torture is never right. Let him rot in jail for the rest of his miserable life, but leave it at that.

I can see where you're going with this, but I whole heartedly disagree. So we take away his freedom, and hope he learns his lesson? Leaving these defective people to "rot in jail", basically hoping for the miracle of their reform is very expensive. Bullets, on the other hand, are extremely cheap by comparison.

Honestly, if you had a family dog who became rabid, and seriously mauled your child, I doubt you'd consider housing it, medicating it and hoping that it would get better. I'm willing to bet that you'd put the dog down in the name of your family's best interest. I think we should consider society's best interest and think along the same lines.

Granted, it may sound harsh to compare a man to a rabid dog, but then rabid dogs aren't necesarily making a concious decision to kill, are they...

Just my opinion.

It's stories like this that make me really think "how could anyone be against the death penalty?"

By not wanting the state to have the authority to legally kill its citizens.

This is pretty horrible. I'm against the death penalty, but I won't be that bothered when this guy is executed.

However, I will never be one to wish for agonizing torture for anyone as a legal punishment.

Everybody is somebody's child.
Is murdering a baby worse than murdering a grownup?
Why?

Yes it's different, the baby didn't throw another baby out of a car window to it's death. Even if it did, it wouldn't have the full awareness of what it was doing, unlike the responsibilities of a grown man.

True, but I never said anything about him not getting a trial. And any trial that is fair shall find him guilty, no doubt he'll manage to get off by mental defect or some BS tho.

No, not anyone ever arrested, but I'm a strong believer of loosing your rights if you take someone elses. And the Bill Of Rights would be something more specific to the states. Granted there are human rights over here, which get to the point of making criminals lives easier than the working public, but I digress.

And TBH, if it was my child (if it was an only child), I would do anything in my power to make sure he paid, even if I ended up having to spend the rest of my life in prison, I would feel justified. Granted, if I had another child, I don't know, as I wouldnt ruin his/her future.

But I dare say, looking at it from your perspective, being a good god fearing man. He'll end up in hell where he'll be tortured for eternity, so it's all good as long as someone else does the dirty work ;) :p

Kidding me?

An interesting question, actually.

A baby has not had the time to form the connections to other people that an adult has. Babies have their parents, but they have no friends, and most certainly no lovers (that would be disgusting). While the loss of a baby hurts parents deeply, I think the loss of a child who is a bit older, who they have gotten to know and talk to, probably hurts even more.

Think of all the people you know. Think of all those whose lives would be affected if you passed away tomorrow. You probably know dozens of people.

Of course, murdering a baby I think is much worse than murdering a murderer. But I do think that both are wrong on some level.

I understand not everyone was is from America, but he is. That's why I bring up the Bill of Rights.

I personally don't believe in hell, but it's whatever. And I'm not what you would call the strictest Christian, but nice try.

What about your wife/girlfriend? You kill this sob and then get thrown in jail for 10 years. Not only does she lose her baby, but she loses her love. Seems pretty torturous for her. Again its never best to let your emotions get the best of you.

But there is just a pure innocence to a baby. They're totally helpless and dependent on the love of grownups. To be able to look at an innocent baby and to commit such a heinous act so impulsively is not only wrong, but it's a malfunction in the human condition. Whether it's from the crack, or not, it's a malfunction that needs to be removed from civilization.

Not that I'm justifying murder, but often murder has a motive based on interactions between people. Still, even in a murder attempt, often there is a chance for an adult to catch on, and to defend themselves, sometimes successfully. A baby has no such chance, or even the capacity to comprehend what's happening. This reminds me of the story of the mother that beat her little six year old daughter to death while her daughter was still hugging her and telling her mommy that she loved her. I mean what the hell? As a parent there is nothing more sacred that the love of my child, and nothing I cherish more than the love he gives me back. I would die, and I have the capacity to kill to preserve that. I just can't fathom where this worthless piece of turd comes from, nor am I interested in his perspective. As far as I'm concerned, if you do something like this, then you need to be destroyed.

Damn. very well said. I was sitting here trying to articulate a response to Sartori's posts but this pretty much encapsulates what I was hoping to convey. Therefore, I'll just give this a wholehearted +1

Yeah, well I'm not talking about that man especially. Any grown man. You wouldn't be this mad if the baby in question grew up to be 20, and then was thrown out of a car window, out of the blue.

Even though as sartori said, there is more loss in the case of a grownup.

Of course there are certain elements in action here. We inherently like babies, and cute young things. We even made wolves look like small babies, so that we can love them more. Babies also need to be protected so we need to keep our instincts that protect them. To survive as a species. Punishing the baby killer merely strengthens the moral code in people that says "this isn't right at all" It's not about punishing the person, it's about protecting the "innocent"

In another era where morals are shifted, maybe babies could be post-natally aborted until 1 year old.

I too have the urge to maim the man though, if I have to say it.

What a colossal +1 this deserves!

The 20-year-old would at least be able to comprehend what was happening and attempt to defend himself. The same cannot be said, or even hinted to, when speaking about an infant.

So? Is it killing a nonsentient unconscious being that is a bigger problem? Or it being defenseless and unaware? Both apply for, say, dogs. The difference is a baby becomes a sentient conscious being at one point, and you are in fact protecting that aspect of it.

Then, why is killing a possibility worse than killing an already accomplished sentient fellow human? This argument is weak, and IMO doesn't reflect your values correctly.

Interestingly, the arguments of pro-choice and pro-life people mostly revolve around the sentience of the baby. Both protecting the sentience. According to the argument you've proposed though, if an unborn baby is not fully sentient yet, it's even worse to kill it, than to kill a born baby, or a grownup.

For what it's worth, I feel animal abusers should be dealt with to the harshest degree possible as well. I've expressed my sentiment here many times that I feel Michael Vick should have been destroyed.

You say my argument is weak because it doesn't gel with yours. That's okay, I can take it. ;)

I am pro-choice. To the fullest extent, but only in early pregnancy. After a certain point (which I care not to get into here), I become pro-life. The difference here is question of when a fetus becomes a person. It seems my thoughts and your thoughts differ. That's cool.

I'm *also* pro-choice because, as a therapist who did family therapy for many years, saw some incredibly abusive and destructive things done to children. Stuff that would curve your spine if I told you.... We as humans feel it is humane to end the suffering of animals. yet, humans deal with incredible amounts of pain, suffering, abuse, neglect, hate, etc. and it would be considered criminal to end their lives. I feel that if more parents who were not fit to be parents in the first place, terminated their pregnancies in acknowledging they wouldn't be fit parents, there would be less abuse and neglect of defenseless children.

Again, don't call my arguments weak because you don't agree with them. Just say you disagree and be on your merry way. :)
