Double Bass Putting cover over bass mic

Sup folks. I was watching a video of Yasushi Nakamura and he seems to have his bass miced and then a cover over it, presumably to prevent bleed/feedback. Not sure that i've seen this done before and curious if anyone has tried this and if it really helped with anything. I've had the idea of putting some sort of filter over a mic in the past to capture what you want and filter out what you don't.

I can tell there's a pickup installed. It's hard to detect a cable coming from under that "hood", but I think I see a silhouette of a cable reflecting off the bass body. Interesting.

Whatever it is, it does sound very good. This idea would be somewhat similar to the Ischell microphone system, which is good, but doesn't quite sound the same as a high quality condenser in an isolated studio room. It would be cool to find a way to use different (better?) condenser mics that have a cover that isolates the sound to only what's coming out of the bass.

Yes, if one could have the advantages of using an omni mic, but lessen spill and feedback..

The Remic Green is quite good, but it’s got limitations and you have to use a great pre and speaker to take
advantage of it. Touring Pros play bass dejour, students and weekend warriors can’t justify the expense. So I love my stuff but I’m in the minority

I just recorded last night for the first time with my new ETL Nadine. Definitely got the snare as well as plenty of other bleed. I think I'll be exploring shielding myself. I have a question regarding cables, but I'll post it separate so I don't hijack the thread...
