For future reference…. a nice way to break it down to see how beautifully the chords fit together. Don’t worry it it takes you a while for all this to gel.

It's a wonderful little ukulele however, in 1964 $35 in today's money is about $350 plus the back of the body was split along 2 seams which pops repaired. Pops got a free gibson flat top with the headstock broken off and he fixed that with elmer's. He played it for a few years but he was more of a pianist and sold it.That’s quite a find!![]()
I am actually reading this in a music store. I still seems to get a bit hung playing this melody. I am going to keep on until this is ironed out.
Yes, I can hum the melody fluently. Can you sing it perfectly, or at least pretty fluently?
Cool, no reason you can't play it on bass at least equally fluently too then, IME and IMO. But as always Doc, easy for me to say!Yes, I can hum the melody fluently.

I have no doubt. Playing with other people has always made it a zillion times easier for me, especially for jazz stuff I haven't internalized yet. Keys and horns, preferably, in that order. Play-alongs with recordings just don't bring the same energy, for me anyway. Great tool for homework so you don't get booted off the stage though!I will get there.![]()
Copyright law is a hard mistress!I too think iRealPro is great. My only gripe about it is that while it does show the changes, the heads are not written out. Apparently need to hard copy for the heads.
It took me years to actually know the notes, now I am working on reading all of the other information to make song sound right. This is me playing the song about 15 or 20 minutes ago. The form is right, but I am still working on getting those note values right. I got a bit down on myself this week and I have thought about quitting because I am so old, it is not like I have future playing bass, but I calmed myself down and I am going to try to improve as long as I can.Thank you for sharing this. I assume you do this in order to get some constructive feedback. So here are a few observations and suggestions.
I assume you are playing from RealBook 6th edition. (the tune is Em there).
You need to pay attention to the form:
At the end of the 1st A section, there is repeat that you just ignore, jumping immediately to the 2nd ending, and so the melody makes no sense. Make sure you understand the meaning of repeat signs and 1st and 2nd endings (have someone explain them to you).
The note duration in your playing is all over the place, and as a result the duration of the measures sounds quite random. It would help to use a metronome. Also the melody (as written in the RB) is just 1/4 notes and notes of longer duration. To start with, try playing them exactly as written; this won't sound much like jazz, but it will put you on the right track. Also, count the beats on which you are not playing a note. I should be something like this:
E F# G / C 2 3 4 / 1 D E F# / Bb 2 Bb 4 /
1 C D E / A 2 3 4 / 1 B C# D# / G 2 3 4 / 1, etc ... each note or count should fall on a metronome tick.
Good luck and keep having fun with this.

I just turned 72 this week and have been looking for motivation myself. As bassists we have the wonderful opportunity and ability to lift other players and whole bands and audiences up by doing even the simplest things, so that's become my primary focus lately. Doesn't matter if I improve personally any more at all, as long as what happens in the room sounds better.I got a bit down on myself this week and I have thought about quitting because I am so old, it is not like I have future playing bass, but I calmed myself down and I am going to try to improve as long as I can.
