And... after pulling out my Zvex Mastotron for a session - it's on my board full time! Works GREAT on bass, even later in the effects chain. The impedance control really helps to make it work with just about any input (passive, active, buffered signals, etc.). Basically, as I understand it, the Mastotron IS a Woolly Mammoth circuit but with the additional impedance control (although there is some disagreement whether they are exactly the same). A Wooly that works with any bass for about 1/2 the price? Done.
I also let my favorite Boss needle tuner go in favor of the Planet Waves Tru Strobe tuner. It's just as accurate & I've come to prefer the strobe type approach.
Mastotron should be a MUST try for any bassist looking for fuzz. I still like the Fender Sub-Lime, but it just doesn't do the over-the-top, scooped sputtery thing as well.
