PYPB 37: In a row?

That pink board is so HOT.
There was a pink pedal club thread somewhere.

Went through a pink phase too. Put this together for a little while then sold most of it off.

yah. i lurv pink, but there's not a lot of pedals i like that come in pink and i'd kick on the wrong thing all the time if i didna have different colors to go by live. need all the help i can get.

oof. got my board basically figured out. i had three cables that were wonky, two of them intermittently so. food, then some solder time before practive today. woot!

How do you like the BYOC filter? I've never played a real 440 on bass, so I have no concept of how well it works. Seems like it could be an interesting pedal and not too costly/difficult to build.

I'll second that question. I'm 99% sure to be picking one up next month, and would love to hear any feedback or reviews on it. Also, how was it as a first build?

I found the BYOC 440 to be very vocal, mid-focused and wah-like in character. It didn't quite have that slurpy quacky mu-tron type of envelope filter sound. It sounded more like a wah pedal, which is why I dug it.

As for building it, it was my very first pedal build (other than the confidence booster that came with it), and it worked first time, no problems. It is a pretty simple circuit.

i am thinking of getting another fuzz that will be similar to the bass big muff. probably the new MXR one. that way i can move the phaser over in the spot next to where the mxr bass fuzz will be, and then be able to put the tuner on my board too. also ill keep the bass big muff for something easy put in bag with my tuner and go for some gigs where i dont want a full pedalboard.

Totally agree with bigchief. It was a super easy build, solder by numbers really, and yeah, my first build too.

I am having phase issues (I think) with it and my setup. The 440 clone sounds cool with my bass plugged directly into it, but when I incorporate it into the middle of my setup (after all the dirt), it looses so much low end as to be almost unusable for bass. I'm not discouraged though, as there are mods to be had for it that I haven't tried (but plan to soon). It comes with the proper capacitors to make it 'bass friendly', but I may have to mod it further for my particular needs; such as changing the Manual pot from log to anti-log to extend (smooth out) the sweep. Already ordered a replacement pot from Mammoth.

I have a lot going on in my signal chain, so don't let my problems with it color your decision to build one. Honestly, bass > 440 clone > amp sounds really cool. Not bad for an $80 filter, especially with all the available adjustment knobs. And, building it was fun, and easy. Worked the first time I plugged it in. :bassist:

I miss my micro synth so much, your pics kinda made me want to give it a go again. It was a great subtle pedal that added some weird tones to my sound. Also looks pretty sexy next to that white wah...:bassist:

Nice board, how do you like the Nova Delay?

FWIW at least from the demo clips, I don't think that the new MXR fuzz sounds much like a Muff variant at all, isn't it based on a tonebender?

i am really liking it, i've only had it for a few days, but i love being able to store presets and the digital Milli-second read out. as for the fuzz, i am not neccessarily looking for something just like my big muff. i'd rather have two different fuzz sounds to pick from. either way, based on the mxr's sound samples i've heard, it seems to get really creamy fuzz tones. i am also considering the wren and cuff pickle pie b or tall front russian. do you have an compact sized fuzz recommendations that might compliment the sound of the big muff to have as another option?

i really love the micro synth. mine was modded by analog man to have an expression pedal to control the stop frequency. hence the expression pedal on the left side of the picture. i love how it looks with my wah too :D
