I had an epiphany and realization I wasn't complying with my philosophy of "Function over Name". As much as I like the FEA 2 CH Mixer, it's gain knobs start at signal level and go up. I cannot reduce the level of a channel. In switching to the KFK-1 EQ as my channel splitter -- and because I really wanted a simple EQ at the head of the chain again for my clean sound -- I couldn't control the output level to to each channel. Despite being passive, the Cave Bass Ming-Rod jacks up the signal level something fierce, so much so it buries the clean channel like Jimmy Hoffa.
So...I had to admit to myself that I was ignoring my LS-2 as the solution because it had Boss written on it. This is one case where its buffer really doesn't matter as the pedal will always be on to allow sound, or off to mute it for tuning.
So, the new signal chain goes like this:
Separate Ways -> KFK-1 channels 1 and 2
(1) Tuner -> DBD -> LS2
(2) BMR -> LS2
LS2 (-> DI)
I ran this setup through my mixer board to head phones, and through my GK amp and it is working very well. I can now blend in the BMR's fuzzy sound to taste.
In theory, I could run a cable from the parallel out on the Separate Ways to the LS2's normal input and give myself THREE signal chains. But, that almost seems ludicrous. Almost. And I would lose the muting function the LS2 now provides.
And now I have an FEA 2 CH Mixer lookin' at me and sayin', "Replaced by a Boss pedal, come on!"
Function, not name. Always.
Except, of course, if it is my pedal endorser.
