PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

I went from a Nano, to a PT1, to a few different DIY deals, back to the PT1, to a Classic 3 and now back smaller to a Classic JR…I’ll miss some of the FX, but I just wasn’t using them live, and my loaded Classic 3 is a LOT to bring to a gig (YMMV).

Here we are today, just stuff I’ll be using regularly, this setup covers all of my needs (and then some).

Not much more room up top, so I had to cram the Neuro hub & USB hub downstairs.

I love your setup!!

I'm kinda doing things backwards here. I never get around to taking a shot of my board until I'm about to change something and want a record of what it used to be. So this has really been my board for the last 4 or 5 months - and it's been great - but a few things are about to go and a few things are getting added.....so it's only going to look like this for another day or so. Maybe next time I'll actually take a picture of it as soon as I get the new stuff on.

Here's another pic of my current board, both to reflect one update and to establish some nice symmetry with the poster above who has the same floor as me. I'm currently rotating an Empress Compressor, Keely Bassist, and Dispatch Master for one pedal slot, mainly while I make a final call as to whether I'm going to use a compressor in the current live rig.

Quick Question: do you rehouse your own pedals? If so, any advice? I have an overwhelming desire to do that for some obsessive aesthetic conformity...

I also have some oblong pedals or effects in cheap enclosures that would benefit from some armoring.

Sweet board… the Arkham doesn’t look so large now that I’ve got some big pedals on my board.

Need to post a legend for your pedals.

Thanks - appreciate it!

Yeah, the Arkham definitely adds some weight, but the footprint really isn't that bad. I've played through quite a few nice normal pedal sized preamps (with and without tubes)....but after having the Arkham on my board, I don't think I'll ever go back.

I do rehouse my own pedals, although fewer of these pedals are rehoused than it might seem. The TurboTuner and Octabass on the top row were not rehoused, but rather I simply sanded the original finish off and had new designs etched onto them. The pedals on the bottom row originated from a limited run of Fuzzrocious pedals with special etched finishes, so a couple of them are actually in their original enclosures and a couple of them are different pedals I have rehoused in the same boxes.

The main thing with rehousing is to open up the pedal you want to rehouse, take a look at how it is configured inside, and see how much work it will be to get it into a different box. You're likely going to have to do at least some soldering and likely drilling, but the amount and complexity will depend on how the pedal is designed and what type of box you want to put it in. If the pedal has a bunch of stuff mounted on the circuit board, for example, you are going to be a little more limited in what you can do and will need to be more precise in your work than if most of the pots and other items are not direct mounted. Otherwise though, you just have to dive in and learn as you go.

I posted a full rundown not long ago, but here's the updated list:

Back row: TurboTuner, Polytope, Octabass, Empress Compressor
Bottom row: Fuzzrocious Grey Stache, Demon, and Lil' Fella, plus a bypass looper (second from the right)

Signal chain is Compressor > Lil' Fella > Bypass Looper > Turbotuner, with all other pedals in the loop.

Thanks… I do dig your style of sanding and etching. I know you posted a rundown a while back, I was feeling lazy.

Thanks. The etching style orginated with the Fifth Element stones that Fuzzrocious made in collaboration with Handsome Beard Etching, and I over time I got Handsome Beard to etch some designs I mocked up in a style that would roughly match on some favorite pedals that I stripped down.

Well, I've moved to "the big board" and with that comes more pedals because I'm a masochist. I had everything set on the PTnano with the Strobostomp > BC-1x > Multiwave > DD6. Then I had to go screw it up and buy an awesome Squier Mustang that needed a little help in the volume department. So I moved up to the PTjr. The Super Fuzz is strictly in clean boost mode. It's basically a BOSS FA-1.

I GAS bought the Octaver for $25 and added the Carcosa because the Multiwave is already doing an octave up and having the octave down too gets muddy.

Will bring this to rehearsal tomorrow and see what stays. LOL.

I wish I had the tools, room, time and expertise to redo a pedal, there's one I really want that has garish artwork that just messes with my OCD, I wish they offered a vanilla version of it.

I've wondered if there was a way to do cover paint like they do with cars, and if I were to sell it could probably remove the covering to keep it stock.

Might swap Pork Loin for a TC Electronic Spark though. But this works really well for my band!

I just added Milkbox before an OC-2.

tempImagebF6IjI.png

I didn't want to add another pedal to the board, but now everything works better with a little compression: OC-2 doesn't clip, "clean" side of the Pork Loin also doesn't clip so I can dial it more and much deeper (via internal trimpot). I won't swap it now. Also, my clean sound is now a little bit fuller and more even.
