PYPB XL: Midlife Crisis

My first new pedalboard post in a good while. Settled on this and lugged it off to the studio today:

SUCH a hard decision to leave off my new TimeLine and DMC-3XL! :hmm: Excellent gear, no doubt, but after some home testing I eventually had to make myself admit that the DD-7 is better for my band board. I need the 1:1 knob to function ratio for them spontaneous twiddles, dammit!

Oh, and this expressionator business is pretty much the best thing in the whole world. :D

Very practical approach......if a pedal on that board quits should be quick and easy to replace

Finally wired up the wounded paw blender v4. Right now the signal chain is:

Bass > Wounded Paw Blender V4 > Polytune Mini > Sansamp PBDDI > amp

WP loop A > clean
WP loop B > mxr bass octave deluxe
WP loop C > Digitech bass synth wah > mooer black secret > mooer triangle buff > source audio BEF pro with hot hand 3
WP loop D > Line6 M9

My favorite feature of the the WP is that there is a knob to switch to change loops C and D from series to parallel. So I can use the m9s delays and reverbs at the end of my dirty loop, or run the m9s synth into either the distortion or fuzz to really beef up the tone and add some snarl before hitting the BEF.

My next purchases are going to be a PT pro and some sort of custom cabling kit to clean up the disaster of wires I'm working with. And once I have some more real estate probably a mastotron and a low pass filter like the xerograph

Love, love, love the BJEF Blueberry Bass Overdrive. One of the only pedals that I truly regret selling. Really nice compliment to the B3K.

I haven't had too much down time to play around with it but it is indeed all it was cracked up to be.

The darkness of the BBBOD into the brightness of the B3K just kills. I'll have to try the B3K-->BBBOD to see if bright into dark OD works better but I'm loving it so far.


And Knetgummi, that's a sweet board!

Updated with the Phase 90 in place of the Cusack Tap-A-Phase and Radial Loopbone is back on the board in place of a Radial BigShot EFX after quickly getting it to and back from Radial headquarters for a minor repair (I bought it used for $100, and although the seller was not upfront about any problems with the pedal, the extra $30 for parts and labour is still a bargain for a unit that sells for $299 new).

I really like the Loopbone. It has a drag control which adjusts the impedance so that with all the pedals in bypass mode, I can match the tone that I'd get if I was plugging my bass straight into the amp. I spent quite a bit of time tweaking it, and it works great. The boost is adjustable too. Great stuff.

Although it's obvious I have an affinity for MXR/Dunlop products, the Bass Chorus Deluxe is the only one I bought right away on reputation alone. All the other pedals were purchased only after I had tried other pedals first even though the MXR models were available. Slow learner I guess.

I couldn't be happier with everything as it is now though. For my needs, this is it. Board MVP is the Pork Loin. Most surprising was the Phase 90 - to go from the Cusack Tap-A-Delay with its multiple knobs and switches to the Phase 90, and discover the Phase 90 ultimately had a more usable range of options was an eye opener.

Sweet board. How is the Mooer Triangle Buff? I haven't heard any comments on how this muff clone has worked out on bass. You gotta love the size of those things.

I haven't owned a lot of muffs or fuzzes to compare it to. It has a darker tone than the ehx little big muff pi. I wasn't really using it prior to having the blender because it would always get lost in the mix with my band. The black secret is an awesome Rat imitation though. So much snarl in that little guy.
