Question about an Avatar

Alright, I have a chance to get an Avatar 2x10 bass cab for $90. This is a pretty good deal, but its a 4 ohm not an 8 ohm. This wouldn't be a problem except that I hope to get a 4x10 or a 2x12 as well as an inexpensive head in the near future.

Being aware of the 8ohm + 8ohm = 4ohm and an 8ohm + 4ohm= 2.67 ohms I realize that many inexpensive heads can only handle 4ohms, so my question is should I jump on this or is not worth it if I can only afford to get a head that can't handle two cabs?

Alternately, should I just get the 2x10 and an inexpensive head? I only play smaller settings for now and I'm curious as to what kind of settings a 4ohm 2x10 can handle.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

the GK heads give you nice headroom and good volume at 4 ohms, an option would be to go with a 700rb-II (which you can get for around $600 USD if you keep your eyes open, or even a 1001rb-II (which I've seen as low as $629 around here. I'd jump on the cab for $90 because they're great cabs, and you could always use that for smaller settings and get a 4 ohm 410 for larger settings, or save up and pick up a 210 and 212 at 8 ohms each. This may work depending on how large the venues you'll be playing are and what you'll have to compete against, but the avatar 410 with the GK is a nice clean tone if that's what you're into. I don't have that setup myself but a friend of mine plays with a 1001RB and 410 delta cab from avatar, he's got plenty of volume in the mix and plays in a 5 piece with a heavy handed drummer, two guitarists battling to be as loud as they can and a singer who plays guitar pretty loudly too. Don't underestimate the benefits of having a lightweight alternative available to you, it's great for when you don't need to knock down walls.

what speakers are in the B210? ... just to toss another consideration in the mix, if the cab is loaded with two 8 ohm drivers, you could always rewire it in series for a 16 ohm load, so that when used with another 8 ohm cab it would still be fine for a 4 ohm capable head ... that way, the smaller 210 would be getting half the power of the larger 410/212 which may also be desireable ... for 90 bucks, its tough to go wrong ... JMHO

Depending on what you consider inexpensive for a head ... You can find Genz Benz GBE600's and Eden WT330's for fairly cheap ($300 - $500), and both handle a 2 ohm load very well. The very earliest WT330's were apparently 4 ohm minimum, but almost all of them you'll find for sale go down to 2 ohms.

Either of these heads running a 4 ohm 210 would be great, and you could add a 4 ohm 212 or something for a great modular rig. I like the GBE600 better, but the WT330 is my favorite Eden head ever.
