Question about Rickenbackers back in the day

I paid $250 for this used '80 Ric 4001 back in '87

Had a crack in the pickguard from the back pup to the top, other than that, no issues.

Came up in the paper want-ads one Saturday. "Hello – you still got that bass?" "Yep." "I'll be right over!" *click* :hyper:

It was even red!! Always wanted a red Ric!! :bassist:

Long story short, in 1981 I paid $200, plus my Fender Mustang, for a slightly modded '75 Jetglo 4001 (w/Badass II). It was the best $200 I ever spent, as its still one of my main basses!

In the mid-late '70's/early '80's I distinctly recollect new 4001's selling in the $750 - 800 range and used ones in decent shape going for $500-600. I recall trying out a few 4000's and 3001's back then but I don't remember pricing, always had my eye on the 4001.......
