Question about speakers....

Hi everybody, and Happy New Year!
I have a Peavey Tour 115 8ohm cab I bought new late last year. Now I have the need to convert it to 4ohm. Anybody know how this thing is wired? It has a tweet in it, and Im not sure if the 8ohm impedence is including the tweeter or not. The end result is to end up with a 4ohm cab. Anybody have any idea how to make this happen?

not internally without upsetting the balance of the crossover - why do you want to convert to 4ohm - is it to get full power out of your amp head? A separate 8ohm 2 x 10 cab in parallel would be the best option.

Ha! Ok, I knew this was coming...LOL
Yes, thats my goal, and I already have enough cabs to do that, but our new studio environment where this rig is kept will not support the large footprint required to stack 3 cabs in there, I do have the room to stack 2 cabs however and I am happy with the tone I get with the 4X10 and 115 together...So now having the full story, got anything else?

Still a bit confused here. So you already have this 8ohm 1 x 15 cab and a 4 x 10 cab (that is also presumably 8ohm?) You don't want another cab but you want the 115 to be 4ohm instead of 8?
Still not sure why you need the 115 cab to be 4ohm. If its for recording not gigging then as long as you're not pushing the cabs too hard then you should not need lower impedance.
Maybe the 4x10 cab is a 4ohm and you want the 115 to match it?
Help me out here!

YES! Thats it! I have a 4ohm 4X10 on 1 channel of my Eden WT500, and 2 8ohm 115's on the other. But only have room for 2 cabs in the new studio. This is why I am wanting to convert 1 of the 15's to 4ohm. Therefore creating a balance of power on both channels. Took the long way around the barn, but I think we are there now!

you'll be lucky to put full power of your eden at 8 ohms into a 115. honestly, i doubt you can do it.

don't be in such a rush to take a cab that can barely handle the power you're putting into it as is and put more power into it. this forum is positively littered with people who have blown their small cabs by trying to put way more power into them than they should. if you want more power, get a cab that can handle it and don't try to make a silk purse out of a hog's ear.

this thread demonstrates the adage "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." you'll be lucky to put full power of your eden at 8 ohms into a 115. honestly, i doubt you can do it.

WOW! Did you even read the thread? Perhaps comprehension is the issue?
Thanks though....

no, smart guy, my comprehension is fine. you're trying to...hey, do what you want...what do i care? obviously you only want people to tell you what you want to hear and don't care about whether it's a good idea or not, so knock yourself out.

What you'll have is an imbalance. A 1x15 can't take as much power as a 4x10, so they should not be the same impedance. A 1x15 and 2x10 would be a good match.

A cliche it may be, but Jimmy has forgotten more about the electric bass than you're likely to ever learn. You'd do well not to dismiss his advice.

In fact, this bears repeating.

Thank you Al, finally someone who gets it. Its not about power, its about tone.
There is no question that Jimmy has far more knoweledge than I do. Im sure he is far superior to me in every way. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer! Was not my intention to undermine his obvious intellectual prowess. I just simply pointed out that he didnt fully understand the goal. Just didnt really appreciate the inuendo that I was a "bone-head" in his reply. I admit that my knoweledge is limited at best, but I do know enough to realize that what I was trying to accomplish was not an unreasonable, nor ridiculous goal. maybe I am wrong, Im sure from some of the responses that several of you will think so.

Anyway, apologies to Jimmy. Wasnt my goal to piss you off, but simply make sure you understood the end result. Perhaps I let your comments in open forum momemtarily cloud my judgement, which led to a moderately "snippy" reply.

If someone has a suggestion that might shed some light without talking down to me, please feel free to post it, if not, just ignore me, and I will fade away...

Thanks, Koy

when you're right, you're right. sometimes i get a little caustic with the humor. sorry about that. i'll edit my post.

btw, i could name about 1000 things you're no doubt better than me at ;)
