Question about Trace Elliot V-Type head

I think you can get overdrive from it, don't know how much and how loud it will be (probably loud!).

I wouldn't pay over €600, but if the tubes are less then 2 years old, I might pay 700.


EDIT: i just read the add again, the tubes are supposed to be new. Try to get it under 650.

There were smoking heap versions then other slightly less smokey ones
and when Freddy F had finally got the bias about right hardly any smoke if at all. But then the place still stank like a rewind shop for months.
As to gain there are very high gain ECC83's out there in fact I just fitted a Marshall Super Lead MK 11 with EH high gain and I was shocked
loads of dirt loverly it was. Then with the sole aid of a metal zone 2 pedal a full extreme metal down-tune holocaust was properly achieved.

If you want a real treat fill the pre full of CV 4004 Mullard Mil Spec they usually test 120% (both half's!) on gain and are ruggedized, have huge plates and all copper pins and traces. The fact that most asian ECC83's test out at about 89% gives you an idea of the scale of the gain change.

AFAIK, only the later runs (version 2.0?) of the V4 had the two-channel setup (with overdrive) like the V8. I'm still on the hunt for one, too, BTW. ;) :D :cool:

Let me set the scene for you, imagine if you will the essex marshes on a stormy night long ago in the year of our Lord 1986 wind warped trees abound a bleak flat landscape.
There in a simple wooden hut by a single unshaded lamp sits the lone figure of the legend that is Freddy Freedline, suddenly lightning like flashes emanate as he connects the probes a warm glow from the ballast resistor in the pile of parts in front of him lights his broadening smile and with a quick check of the scope to the left of him his smile distorts into a lear of manic victory he jumps up from his chair leaping foot to foot shouting eureka at the top of his voice and summoning every last ounce of creativity in his frail body shouts I think I'll call it the V Type.

I had one with green carpet that had a V4 badge and a V-Type label on the front chassis. Anyway it had issues and never worked right for me. It ticked and squealed at medium to high volume so it was basically useless. A few techs in town could not fix it out so I sold it for next to nothing. Full disclosure on the sale of course... I won't say the all tube V-types have inherent issues however the guy I bought the V4 from later bought a V6 that had similar issues with parasitic oscillations.

Not trying to spread amp problem hype or anything. That was just my bad experience and I haven't heard any problems with any other V-types except the guy I got it from and his V6. Apparently that V6 did get fixed.
