Not to get that technical about it, but 'Mexican reggae' is not a bad description:
Hotel California is in that reggae vein in that you feel the groove on 1 and 3, instead of on the more usual 2 and 4 back beat. Ending that repeating figure as it follows the chords on the 5 tends to imply Latin music as well.
For me, it's interesting in that as in all Eagles music, there's LOTS of guitar parts and this fairly busy bass line supports instead of sounding 'busy'.
