quick connection question

when it comes to running the following through an 8x10 classic:
-svt 4 pro
-sansamp rbi
-dbx 266xl compressor

now before i begin i just wanna say that the tone i get from just my bass, the 8x10 and the svt4pro im not impressed with at all. notes have limited bottom end and the mid range sucks. the compressor on it sucks too. THAT BEING SAID...
i play a warwick corvette standard passive mec pickups so not having active pickups makes me automatically need a preamp to add that extra oomph and control.

i want my svt 4 pro to give me what it can tube-wise and then just beef it up with the rbi. is doing this okay? doing this always gives me a high buzz out of my 8x10 and its really annoying considering there are many ways to connect this damn thing to my head. i want to incorporate the dbx so i can gate out any stupid buzz, noise or feedback and compress the heck out of it to add that cut and attack for live performances. the compressor on the svt doesnt not cut at all...maybe i should have just gotten a decent power amp and a furman for the money i spent on the svt 4 pro. *sigh*

my questions are:

1. how do i connect the svt4-pro,sansamp rbi and dbx 266 in the best way possible to ensure the cleanest and ballsiest tone?

2. what are your thoughts and recommendations on this rig?

You are probably better off making your RBI your preamp and using the 4 Pro for power or getting a separate power amp (but might as well use the 4 Pro since you have it already). Try plugging your RBI into the return of your effects loop. That should allow the RBI to be your only preamp. Hopefully it will be a lot less noisy, too, and then you won't need the horrible noise gate on the 266XL.

As for the rig, I like the 4 Pro. It's not my favorite but it's better than most hybrids, and I'm not real big on the newer 810's, but it's still a very formidable rig and has the capability of sounding great.

okay so then it goes bass>sansamp>fx loop return of svt
then the fx loop send goes to channel 1 input of 266xl?

yeah a lot of rockers seem to prefer the 810, it does push a solid block of air. i'm thinking of switching it for an ashdown mag 410 and 115 so it makes transportation easier. the ampeg would have the superior sound though but im sure i could still get a pumpin sound out of ashdown, never tried them before. i love my ampeg 810 tone tho

You'd want to run the 266XL off the loop in your RBI.

go look at other amps.

not that what you have is bad, but you obviously don't like it.

just because your bass is passive doesn't mean you need a seperate preamp besides the one in any head. most heads have active eq and more than enough gain.

back to the point, it sounds like you're trying to put lipstick on a pig. If you can't bring the 810 along to campare it to other cabs at least bring your head and bass down to some shops and play some other amps/cabs.

is it safe or okay to run everything(rbi+tuner+compressor) off the svt4pro...like just use it as a power amp? i know its not meant to be ran like that, but i have limited rack space and am kind of lazy to sell the svt and buy a power amp (if i had to get one it would be the swr 750) but they are expensive just like the svt....

also. is it worth my time getting a power conditioner for my rack? i dont want to spend much on one...furman's merit series is reasonably priced but they dont have 'Lift' like the much higher priced conditioners do...is it worth it? would a merit m-8lx do the trick??

Yes, you can use the 4Pro as a power amp. As long as it doesn't bother you to carry it around, it's fine. There are much better deals for power amps than the SWR though- look at Carvin DCM amps. In fact IIRC there are a couple of very inexpensive Carvins in the TB classifieds.
