Quick Question (Equalizer and D.I. Box)

Hey guys I have a quick question.

I'm rather new to effects so I was curious as to whether I should buy a EQ Pedal and use that with my Compression or buy a D.I. Box and have that act as the EQ to use with compression. I know D.I. Boxes are extremely helpful when it comes to studio recording but I'll mostly be playing live and I'd only want the pedal to control my tone as I wish.

Thanks Everyone.
Kyle J.

A DI box generally doesn't have any EQ or compression. There are exceptions, like the BDDI or Tone Hammer, where the manufacturer decided to call the box a "DI" even though it's more of a tone-shaping preamp and EQ that also happens to have a DI output. So be sure to refer to specific products that you might be interested in, so we know how to respond.

I think I found a mistake. I don't specifically know if there is any difference, but I was referring to a Direct Box rather a D.I. box...

An example for something like that would be the Seymour Duncan Paranormal Direct Box.

Also I meant the compression as a totally different pedal, I realize the Boxes don't include compression.

Thanks

Whoever told you that was confused about the meaning of direct box. Like I said, some "all-in-one" type pedals contain multiple features including EQ and DI, and a couple of them even have DI in their name; but they are the exceptions.

Please check out the FAQ linked in my sig for explanations of EQ, DI, and preamps.

Base your decisions on two things: what you need, and what you have researched and found that a given specific piece of equipment can actually do. Do not base any decisions on the names or labels.
