Quilter Bass Block v803

Found the first problem with the V803...It does not work properly and hums if you don't remember to plug the other end of the cable into your bass. This is clearly a terrible oversight on Quilter's part. :roflmao:

Other than that, so far so amazing!
The same thing happened to me - no sound until I plugged the cable into the amp!
 
First, let me say that HOLMImpulse is a very old and finicky piece of software. I had to mess with it several times to get it to quit crashing. I think within each graph the data is consistent, but don't compare graph to graph. Except for the Bass measurements, Gain was set at 12 o'clock. For Bass, it was at 9 o'clock.

Bass response. This is with the bass knob at 9, 12, 3 o'clock. Max bass (either way) caused crashes. So I think the dB change at these settings is only +- 8dB, not the full +-15 dB.

Although I don't have the knowledge to understand it fully, I get the overall idea.

One of the things that I find most intriguing, is that in the mid frequencies, it seems that there's a smaller Q value for low mids and the Q value seems to increase as the mid frequencies increase. Is that correct? Is that common?
 
Except for the headphone response, from FX Send.
Good, that protects your sound card/interface.

I would be very careful using headphone outputs, some can produce very high output levels unloaded.
 
Took my 803 out on a gig last night, which was a holiday program with the Minnesota Symphony. As I am flying in, my m.o. for these gigs is to bring my head of choice to use with whatever cabinet is provided, in this case an Ampeg 410 (not what I use at home but preferable to some other cabs I might get). I couldn't turn up very much, as keeping a lid on stage volume is part of the deal in order to keep the orchestra and conductor happy.

Mid scoop input, warm setting, bass and treble controls about 11 o'clock, mid control flat. Tweeter control on the cab almost entirely off. It sounded excellent - very responsive and putting across the character of the P-bass just as I would hope.

I wasn't able to hear what the bass was like in the hall, but the FOH engineer told me that the DI sounded great.

Seen parked behind the rig is an SVT Classic head which showed up along with the cab. I imagined it sulking as if to say "You're using that tiny little thing instead of me?'

That would have made for a pretty cool A/B comparison!
(I suppose maybe not during a fly-in symphony production...)

Hi. I m curious about this amp. I have the bb800, and I really think that the sound of other class d amps sounds boring compared to the Quilter. I Guedes that the bb800 doesn't ise ICE-module. Really like the warm, big sound of the Quilter. And it also sounds good on double bass. However, in that case I need to use a preamp for more eq options. So my thought is that the many eq options on the v803 could be useful for me, playing both db and electric bass.

1. Do the v803 use the same poweramp module as in bb800?

2. How many ohms is the input? Same as in the bb800?

3. Have anyone of You tried it on db?

Yes

Yes, 803 with the modern voice and standard input = 800

3. Have anyone of You tried it on db?

Having owned/gigged the bb800 (twice) for several years I can say that the 803 is everything the original was and then some. Most importantly to me it has the same heft and slam of the original that I never experienced with the other "micro" heads I've tried over the years. I usually run my signal through my pedalboard, with some kind of preamp and sometimes cab sim, straight in and use the clean Quilter as a power amp. The 803 affords me the exact same potential but with more eq options and some great new voicing options. Considering the size, power, features and cost this amp is now probably my favorite of all time.
