Quilter Bass Block

I mainly play at lower volumes, and I've found some amps can get frustratingly touchy even without detents. I'd possibly be annoyed by having detents which aren't fine enough subdivisions. Of course, I haven't played one of these, so it could be a non-issue, for all I know. YMMV

I live in a condo with shared walls and there is no problem setting this amp to quite low volume if needed so I can use it at home to practice. One thing I like about the master and the gain is that the slope seem pretty linear. Some amps its like nothing at 9:00 and then at 9.25 its blowing your head off or whatever point on the dial it is. Not so with the quilter.

I should’ve said if you can’t get a good sound - from the quilter - without continuously variable knobs.....

My experience is that often the real issue is pre-detent-knob, so the resolution of even the silkiest and fine-grain detent knob is not enough. I think my detent hurts now.

I can easily make more of a difference in signal size by slightly altering my plucking than any difference between two detente positions. While I'd love to see this problem in action I have a feeling I'd come away with the same conclusion that I already having... this is likely a case of overthinking a feature. Princess and the pea kind of thing. Maybe Goldilocks. No offense.

Can the BB800 power three or four 8 ohm cabs or does the head only go down to 4 ohms?

They recommend sticking at 4ohms, but the manual does say it’s 2ohm stable under certain circumstances.

There's a page on the Quilter website that says it is stable at 2.66ohm (that would be three 8ohm cabs OR an 8ohm cab + a 4ohm cab).
The possibly safe at 2ohm must depend on how hard you are driving it, EQ settings, pedals, ambient temperature, ... etc.

I've done several loud 4 hour gigs with 2 4 ohm cabinets. Master set to about noon or 1. Quilter never flinched once.

That's really good to know. I'm still toying with the idea of ordering one, and this helps alleviate some of my hesitation/concern.
