I live in a condo with shared walls and there is no problem setting this amp to quite low volume if needed so I can use it at home to practice. One thing I like about the master and the gain is that the slope seem pretty linear. Some amps its like nothing at 9:00 and then at 9.25 its blowing your head off or whatever point on the dial it is. Not so with the quilter.I mainly play at lower volumes, and I've found some amps can get frustratingly touchy even without detents. I'd possibly be annoyed by having detents which aren't fine enough subdivisions. Of course, I haven't played one of these, so it could be a non-issue, for all I know. YMMV
