Dig. Its been a journey over the past 20yrs living in NYC— everything had to be portable /subway/bus friendly etc.

often now I wont even take an amp head if theres FOH (HXS has everything I need). This setup works great and if needed I swap out the IB for an Acoustic Image SR-2 head. I have yet to get to a gig and 'need more'. Love the modularity and portability, highly recommend if it checks alllya boxes:thumbsup:

I grew up in Long Island, lived in Queens for many years and worked in Manhattan for most of that time. I miss (and also don't miss at all!) NYC living. I have a little more space now than I did then, but I'm sharing it with a wife and kids and no one but me wants to see my gear. No man cave, garage or office. Just a little nook in the corner dedicated to music equipment. I'm on a very similar journey to keep it small, portable, versatile and sounding good.

Hello fellow Interbass enthusiasts. Question here about using it as a preamp into a combo amp. How does the cabling for that work? Pedalboard -> Interbass input -> Interbass FX Return to amp input? Thanks all!

I've been using the Balanced Out for most things. FX Send is doable, but turns the Gain into your volume control, and I usu like to have Gain at noon or a bit higher, which can be amplitudinously overwhelming in some situations. Adding the Master control to the signal path adds flexibility and has no drawbacks.

Hi all! I read through the whole thread and am wanting to snag the Interbass to use as a DI into my BB800 and also use it by itself for smaller gigs so I don't have to carry the BB buuuuuut with the new BB803 just releasing I have a dilemma.


I was reading the BB803 thread and saw someone saying they tried the 803 but it didn't have quite the same heft/punch as the 800 so I'm thinking of sticking with the 800 but driving it with the Interbass all the while having a backup amp and amp for smaller gigs.


I love my BB800 but find lately that I would like a little more EQ control.


Any thoughts?


Also can the Interbass get a "SVT" sound? I'm playing in a Santana Tribute and a Van Morrison Tribute so I'm hoping to be able to get that old school wall of fridges sound.

If you want an SVT sound, IMO you’d be better off getting a great SVT type preamp and running that into your BB800.

Just me, but I think the Quilter into the Quilter is a bit redundant.
Why not get something with a different flavor.

Also IMO, but as far as a “small amp” for small gigs - it doesn’t get much smaller than the BB800.
If it were me, and I wanted something small, I’d invest in a great 112 or 110 cab and just turn the vol down on the 800

I have the IB and the new 803 and while there is definitely a "family resemblance" I think they are indeed different tonally. I know you're comparing to the 800 which I've never used, but apparently the MODERN setting on the 803 is very similar (but not exactly the same?) as the 800.

The IB can get you a little tube-like saturation, but I wouldn't describe it as SVT-like. Once you crank the gain trying to chase SVT flavor, it stops sounding good IMO. But set lowish and couple with the VINT cab sim, I think it's the bees knees.

Re: @hennessybass reply — I kinda agree. There are better ways to get SVT tones. If you were interested in an all in one solution, the 803 does the 800 thing and cops SVT sounds and a lot of others. It's very versatile.

I also kinda agree with @hennessybass on the size/portability front. Kinda. The Quilter BB series are definitely small and light and powerful. However, everyone's idea of small and portable is different. Check the attached pics to compare the IB with the 803 (which is the same housing as 800.)

The 33/45 watts of the IB are no slouch. Easily drives a 1x10 or 1x12 to hang with reasonable volume jamming, even with drummers that aren't smashing. And, this is the biggest perk of the IB to me — you can run it off a power tool 24v/3a battery. For days!

Hey there fellow IB users! Question for hivemind:

Any of you guys use a pedalboard-based tube DI that you could compare to the IB? GASsing for something like a Finally v2 or Khan DI, but have been a longtime IB user, which does have some tube-like qualities. Curious to know if others have used both together or favor one over the other.

(Functionally, I realize the IB is different than either of those mentioned, but I'm after sonic impressions first and foremost)

I don't know how the IB came into my consciousness, but after digging into it I thought "yeah, I'd like to simplify to a one trip load!". Especially if the tone is as good as you all say it is.

I play mostly restaurant-bar type gigs with medium-low volume, with an occasional outdoor show. My band is a 5 piece with drums, singer, guitarist and guitarist/keys.

I got to play it at an outdoor gig thorough my usual pair of Ampeg 201AV, vertically stacked. Plenty of volume. I have to say that this thing really kicks, like the response is faster that any other amps I have used, if that makes sense. And the tone seems good to me!

I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but thumbs up from me so far!

I got nothing for you re: your requested comparison to a tube DI, but I do use a source audio Zio bass which has a transistor-driven grit switch which does a decent tube flavored emulation. I use it in conjunction with the IB. Zio into IB. Haven’t A/Bed them. I will say the Zio has the potential to get much more dirty than the IB.

Also, this is just via hearing online demos, but the IB “dirt” tube vibe is in the realm of the finally v3 with stock tube. Very subtle for both.

A 12AX7 in the finally might give you noticeably more breakup if that’s what you’re after.

Zero experience with the Khan

How do you run the IB off the power tool battery? Just picked one up and I'm interested. And I'm blown away by the tone and amount of volume. Where was gear like this back in the 90s/early 2000s when I was touring?

There’s another thread on here where @bikemusic shared how to do it. I more or less copied his advice.

You get or make a 3D printed adapter for your power tool battery of choice (matching specs for the Interbass) and wire that into the correct input to the Interbass power jack.

I can send you pics and more specifics later.
