Yes, GG was the definitive prog rock band of the 70's imo, but never got the mass following of other like Yes, due tho the fact that their music was truly quirky and esoteric. But cry not, mon frie! Go to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and you will find many sources of GG CD's. As well as the strange and sad tale of the band itself.

I'll definately check it out. I love band bios. I remember my teacher told me about them and i was like *** is gentile giant. he said they influenced everyone i listen to. So i went to check em out and at CD store...some crazy stuff. I meant to buy it but didn't have the money at the time and then wanted other things like chick corea, bela fleck and steve morse band. Thanks for the link. Sorry if this was a hijacking.

picked up a Gentle Giant 2-cd set, Very yes-ish...i've heard about them in the past but Marley's ghost reminded me of em..

Men at Work - Especially their first US release
Hayseed Dixie - Their parodies (tributes, really) are nearly as good as the originals, if not better (Gin and Juice was better, IMO)
TENACIOUS D! - Not always happy, but ALWAYS quirky

Along with The Flaming Lips, they also worked on Steve Burn's album, Songs for Dustmites, which is quirky and I was really impressed with it. Got it mostly on a lark 'cause my kids were SO into Blues Clues I thought it would be a hoot.

Turns out I really like the album.

I'm going to give a shout out for Mr. Bungle. Very odd band. Wouldn't really call it "happy" music but definitly quirky. With a little dark and a lot of perverted edge to them, they are fun for the whole family.

I second that. I would suggest early FNM, especially 'Introduce Yourself.' Chuck Moseley makes that record. He's completely tone deaf, but I believe that's what makes this it so good. Really good.
