I'm gonna have to put a vote up for just about any ska band... reel big fish, Rx bandits, mighty mighty bosstones all pretty wierd but definately happy, also bowling for soup with that 1985 song makes me laugh histaricly every time i hear it.

I second that. I would suggest early FNM, especially 'Introduce Yourself.' Chuck Moseley makes that record. He's completely tone deaf, but I believe that's what makes this it so good. Really good.

Yuck to Chuck Moseley... I can't take his awful vocals. Annie's song is hilariously bad.

Out of LA. I LOVE them. They have a song about an I-ROQ that's freaking rad! I think it's on their site.

They're like dark quirky music half the time though. Except the new song they released on iTunes that Kim wrote. That's pure fun quirk - how could it not be with "wokka wokka wokka" as park of the chorus?! Yay for Fozie! =)

Local band (San Diego). Total qurik and fun (just visit their site and you'll see). It's a guy on guitar and a girl on drums and at their shows it's alway a random assortment of people who play weird instraments coming on stage to join in. Great song: "Gotta Pee" lol

The Rugburns
They dont have a web site, but you can find stuff about them, especially if you search under Steve Poltz. See if you can download "Hitchhiker Joe". It was a minor radio hit in some areas. Very quirky, like all their stuff. They have albums out. They are the most fun live! Their drummer usually gets up and does a version of Christina Aguilara's "Beautiful" which is hilarious as he walks around the venu drumming on whatever he can find that isn't his drumkit. Tons of energy band. Way fun lyrics.

After all the comments, I want to check out The Unicorns now. I need new music.

Oh, and for the person who brought it up, the band is called The Polyphonic Spree (the one in the white robes). I don't know if I'd call that quirky though. Very retro/70s hippie throw back.

I would reccommend the Unicorns. They're a fun, indie-pop trio that writes songs about ghosts, being unicorns, arguing about which bandmember writes the song, flying in rocket ships etc.
Great live band, the guitarist/bassist looks like one of the Kids in the Hall.

So after reading what several people here had to say about The Unicorns, I couldn't resist going to buy an album. LOVE it! OMG....the songs are fun and silly but stop short of being stupid. And I really dig on the vocal exchanges/arguments. Funnycute. The recording/vocals reminds me a little of early Built to Spill. Just in sound/style. Not so much content.

Right now the "I was born a unicorn" song is my favorite. I've needed new music BAD - thanks!

LOL - nice bill. Nope, they're from San Diego. But I know they toured, so you could have played with them. If the lead singer made insane bugged out eyeball faces half the time, then it's the same band. =)

One other goofy band name lineup thing was I was in a band called the Glad Rags and we played with the Glad Hands, from NC (the album featured Robert Sledge on bass!).

devo are a brilliant band. i'd recommend you listen to mclusky. particularly "lightsaber ****sucking blues"

a bit heavier than the bands you have listed, but i think you'll dig them anyway.
