When I was working at a guitar shop, we ordered a Flying V bass directly from Eastwood and they shipped it to us in a gig bag with a shipping label stuck to it. I was astonished.
Looks like the rest of you at least got some plastic wrap, cardboard, or wrapping paper!

I got a bass from Japan one time in the thinnest cardboard box, correct size, in a gig bag with no bubble wrap, and the bass was intact

Let me guess, the seller was a pawn shop.
An alto sax (and neck) was shipped to me from a pawn shop/ fleabay seller in an oversized cardboard box with two (2) sheets of newspaper that were floating around with it. That tank of a sax made the trip okay.

Wow, glad it survived. I don’t have any pics but the first delivery attempt of my Ampeg SVT 50th Anniversary head was a UPS driver arriving at my porch with amp in hand and the power cord around his neck, no box because it was destroyed and the driver just left it in the delivery truck. I immediately saw that the wood on the side of the amp was busted so I met him at the porch and sent him packing back to the truck with it. The second one arrived safely via FedEx in a factory sealed box. I have a feeling the first amp wasn’t shipped in the original box because they are very well packed.

Threw away the case a day later, and the piss bass is in pieces in my attic because it was also in poor shape.

It appears lots of us have shipping nightmare stories. Mine's more of a mystery. Ordered a nice Japanese T-bird copy with an Epi hard case. It arrived with a large crack in the case's corner, enough to undermine the structural integrity. The bass itself had one pot knob shattered (I think it was the middle one!). A strap clamp and some Titebond fixed the case. Replaced the knob on the bass. Still can't figure how that knob took a hit that caused it to shatter without driving the pot straight through the wood top!

I saw on Reverb that you can buy 3 guitar shipping boxes for $19, not that I would ever need three. I wonder what they would charge to ship those 3 boxes.
Years ago, my Fender 55 P ri arrived in a tall box, naked surrounded by thousands of packing peanuts.

High school marching band, in the bleachers for an away football game my friend was stepping across the bleachers and knocked an alto sax off the bench and it fell probably a story and a half. The person that owned it went and picked it out of the loose gravel, not even a scratch. Everything played perfectly. I have no idea how that survived.
