Quite Possibly The Worst Packing Job Ever?

Ooh, what a pretty Christmas present! I hope it's a drum set!...
And thank the Lord that everyone who handled this "package" was an honest person.... "Package? No, that's just a flat box, I dunno what happened. Well, it's quittin' time; off to my gig - L8RZ!"

You're so lucky! Last week, I shipped with Fedex, I had them pack it, insure it, ship it. It arrived with a bent up Tuner!!!
FedEX did that to a bfr stingray I bought. Original owner said that FedEx was packaging the instrument. All they did was put the case in a box. Nothing else. Case arrived cracked but the bass was ok from what I could tell.
Wow! You would think, as much as some of the name-brand instruments cost, they could ‘splurge’ a little on protecting their products.
That sir is a testament to the indestructibility of the Fender design! My cat would have packed that bass better than that. Absolutely unbelievable that some moron would ship an instrument like that (and that UPS would accept it!).
It's a great advertisement for the Mono gig bag.
I've said for a long time that I believe a bass or guitar in a good padded gig bag is usually safer than in a normal hard case when being shipped or checked in at airlines.
Handlers see a hard case and think it can take a beating and therefore take little or no care. They'll throw them around (something good padded gig bags can deal with easily) not realising that unless it is a high-end hard case the instrument can bounce around inside and be damaged. They also think hard cases can handle heavy things being stacked up on them.
When they see a padded gig bag they tend to take a bit more care and always top pack them. A good friend who has been a baggage handler in Sydney for around 15 years confirmed this for me adding that the average baggage handler isn't too bright.

I have kind of the opposite story....
I had a custom made Arpeggione (5-string on the right below) shipped direct from the Song factory in China.
It's not much bigger than a cello, but arrived in a shipping carton suitable for a full-sized REFRIGERATOR.
It took at least an hour to unpack, and came out of the mountain of packing materials in mint condition.

I received a guitar, wrapped in 2 old shirts and a very disgusting towel, jammed inside of a fender gig bag, with a band of clear tape around the middle holding on the label
Believe it or not, I've had basses shipped in plain cases, and if that wasn't bad enough I've also had basses shipped in plain gig bags. I've also received basses in a big box, with only the bass inside sliding around with no packing material and nothing preventing it from getting the paint scraped off (such as a gig bag).
So, no its not the worse packing job ever per se, but a horrible packing job nevertheless.
