Anyone know much about them??
I have a line on a single cut fretless 5 (bolt-on neck) in a trade deal.
When I get exact specs, I'll post them up.
Body looks like Koa or Mahogny.
The pics look great, I'll post them when I get home tonight.

Anyone have a link to R Basses??

Hey Mike. Will (Wilbyman) is an R Bass fan and owns a couple. PM him and he will give you the scoop. There's also an R Bass mega-thread somewhere if you do a search.

Hey Mike, I have had a few...but the resident R-Bass expert is Leo Kishore a/k/a "Lamarjones". Leo has had quite of them from old Fauxdera-style to the new style. I have not played a fretless R-Bass and I suspect Leo has. Nevertheless, I think Ray makes a great bass...of course, some have more mojo than others.

Hey, not that I am an expert on them, but do talk with Ray quite a bit.....

ANYWAYS I guess you would be familar witht he ecomnics of them, resell is not as great as some of the other boutique builders, but that said almost all of them play and feel great.

Ray really has not done too many fretlesses, but I was able to play one and I noticed nothing bad about them at all, had a strong ebony board on it so it zinged out very nicely. He's tried many different electronics schemes, most of them I dug but there might have been one or two combos I was not the biggest fan of. Would love to speak about anything about them if you like, I have had a lot of them in my possesion if you can call it that (I slowed up a bunch, but did make a habit of trading and swapping like mad)!

Unless you got something real recent I would really think that would be a mahagony body.

I am the proud owner of an R-bass. Very nice sound, growly and full at the same time. Equipped with (series) Nordstrand DC pickups and East Deluxe preamp. Bought it used from tradingbasses.com

You got that bass?!?! That is one of the coolest I have seen! (hey emjazz, notice how that top horn makes it to the 12th, he said that 6 that I posted was somewhat custom). Fullrange, congrats, was wondering where that went! He said Cameron chose that top then sent it to him, I am doing the same for a bass he is making for me.

Mike, Ray told me that he has made 3-4 fretlesses, and the only singlecut bolt on he is AWARE OF (yeah...that happens....) is in his shop. So, all of his fretlesses were lined, but the position of the dots (should be on the fret) should tell you if that is how it started life......

This deal is with Ray himself BTW. He has the bass in his shop-trade for my BSX upright.
I'm just waiting on specs from him, like electronics and woods ect..
Anyone happen to know the string spacing he normally uses?
And any idea of typical/ballpark pricing would be nice as well.

I have a SC 5 string (neck through) that I love. I always knew I liked it, but I did not realize how much until I started using it regularly at a rock gig. It is mahogany with an ambuya top, Barts and U-Retro with a birdseye maple fb.

Mine is 19mm spacing with a Hipshot A bridge.

Last time I got a quote from him for a passive that he had already completed it was in the $2500 range I think. They usually go used for $1800 or so. Not terrible resale, and really good basses, IMO.

Well then........

I'd say around the 3000 mark (active ones). Usually 19mm spacing, and he is big into passive or auderes, but I think he wants to thrown in Nordy j5s, also he said alder with a myrtle top on it.

I would really like to hear my bass with parallel wired Nordstrands (just to hear the difference, cause it's a tad shy in highs IMHO). Very nice bass though. I own 3 singlecuts (Brase I, Kenneth Lawrence; SCNT5-P Stambauch; R-Bass) and each has it's own signature

This is what prompted me to forego a 6 string he just built that I had dibs on, and make methink I need to find a top I dig and match it with that board.

And, I'll include the 6er as well.....

Ray's got a real sweet floor eh?
