R.I.P. 4004 Series basses

Models disappear and reappear all the time. How ever many they made will always have the potential to be on the used market, and this is no indication that they'll never make a 4004 again.

I'm not sure how others buy basses, but they aren't like cars, that some people flip yearly for the newest version.

Holy cow the new 2018 4004 came out in a new color, I need to trade up my 2016 lease! :woot::roflmao:

It sucks when things we like come to an end, but there's a silver lining in there somewhere. I don't think I've ever been disappointed that any piece of gear has been discontinued.

Yes, they are all gone - my friend got the last-ever 4004 at Music Zoo, it was an open box - and he paid 10 times the original price!

In fact, this model is exploding in value as we speak due to Ric's official announcement that they will never revisit the model. "Over my dead body," added John Hall.


So if you're getting killed in the stock market or crypto market, here is your chance to get healthy -- buy every 4004 you possibly can!!

I also think the 4004 is the best Rick bass. Good thing it's not actually going away. There's one at my local music shop for a ridiculously low price, and it looks and sounds great...but the action is pretty high and (according to the shop) the truss rods are maxed, which is a pity. (Maybe with tapes it would be reasonable.)

I can play or buy one today, but I will not.

The 4004 fixed some things I don't like about the 4003:
Pickguard - hate them
That bridge
The non-reversewound bridge pickups, i.e. noisiness
That binding - don't like it

I believe the truss rods are replaceable without having to remove the fingerboard. Might be worth checking out!
