Among others shows, he was also on Star Trek: The Next Generation & Stargate Atlantis.

Too bad. I liked him in M*A*S*H, of course, but he was quite good in ST:TNG and Atlantis.

He had a strange career. A huge number of bit parts as well as voice only parts from 1971 - 2016, but only a very few high profile roles.

I think he should have gotten more recognition and more prominent roles because his acting ability was so excellent. His portrayal as the character Timicin from the ST TNG episode "Half a Life", was moving. It's one of my favorite episodes because of his acting.

And of course, he was the MASH character, Charles Winchester and really made him complex and fully 3 dimensional.

I just watched "Doc Hollywood" the other day, and his portrayal of the Mayor was, IMHO, the stand-out performance of the film.
A good & versatile actor who should have received more recognition and accolades than he did.

His death made the front page of the Sunday paper here since he was a longtime resident of Oregon.

He eventually moved to Newport (Oregon), where he became an active member of the music and theater scene. He was a founding member of the Newport Symphony Orchestra and served as its resident conductor.

Stiers guest conducted the Oregon Mozart Players and orchestras in more than 30 U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Honolulu and Chicago, the Newport Symphony's biography states.

"All of us at the NSO are heartbroken," Music Director Adam Flatt said in a statement. "Our orchestra would not be here if it weren't for his great support and inspiration over three decades. His depth of musical feeling, love for our musicians, and charisma made his performances soar when he was on our podium."

FYI everyone, he passed away from Bladder Cancer which is more common than most of us realize, it's in the top 5 forms of the big C.

Loved MASH, but less so as Klinger, BJ and Hot Lips started looking like they just walked in off the beach. Stiers really sold the Winchester character even though he was nothing like that in real life. Really great acting.
