R.I.P Louis Johnson

Louis Johnson was the very reason I picked up bass back in 2011. I saw the intro to the Star Licks Video and asked my dad to take me to guitar center to get a similar bass. I initially got a Sterling Ray 34 bass in Honeyburst.. His video taught me how to slap the bass and I will always be thankful for his contribution to my playing. "Stomp" was also the first song I learned...

Anyway thought I'd put up a lesser known song of Louis Johnson in honor of his passing..

Blam! I was 15 in 1978 and it really opened my eyes! Spent the last couple of evenings listening to those first four albums.......highly recommended........

Blam! was a great album even though it did not really have a strong hit single. I know The title song is probably my favorite fingers only bass line LJ ever recorded. Stomp has a monster finger part, but featured great slapping in parts too.

I just have to cut-and-paste this - I find it very inspiring on how much he has actually done.
"I had access to all musicians and artists, from Barbra Streisand to Paul McCartney to Michael Jackson," Johnson told Rolling Stone. "It was like an open door. The Lord blessed me with that — I prayed to God and my prayer he answered. He said, 'OK, you got the whole world now.' Every time I'd get in the car to go somewhere, I'd hear me playing the bass... I was all over the place. I released the funk on everybody."

this is crazy.. at the time Mark Adams passed, i saw Drac and was very concerned how big he got, and he passed soon after. (I don't know) what happened to Louis, but last i saw of him, he had put on a lot of weight.. and i was scared for him. with that said. the guy went on a tare throughout 70's and 80's that's monsrtasidous .. but he was a complete musician..without the thunder thumb. he could play with anybody.

I've been in travel mode since the wee hours and just sat down for the last leg of my flight, scrolling TB and saw this post and let out a kinda loud NOOOO in the plane.
So sad.
L J was a big influence, all the great music he played. I'd like to mention the gospel album from his band Passage.
Look for it on YouTube.
