R.I.P. Neil Peart

Ugh. So sad to hear this news. RUSH was one of the reasons I took up an instrument at the age of 15. That was guitar. Then bass sometime later.

But secretly, I wanted to be Neil Peart. Not only was he an incredibly gifted drummer, but in writing the lyrics, he was the HEART (and mind) of the band and his words spoke to me, uplifted me, and took me on incredible journeys.

RIP.

I caught my first (and only) Rush concert in 2015 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. They were, of course, amazing...so glad I bought those tickets.

Definitely one of my favourite drummers of all time. On my bucket list: eventually own a drum kit and, if I learn nothing else, learn the drums to "Tom Sawyer"...:bassist:

Glad I at least heard this here instead of on FB.. this is terrible, I had hoped to at least hear him on some studio albums at least after Rush hung it up. Bought this tab when I first started playing electric in 93, so sad, even after everything he has been through. Prayers for his family.

Wow, what a gut punch! I wasn’t ready for that one and it really stings. I had immense respect for his musicianship and the degree to which he stayed grounded and didn’t seem to succumb to the lure and frills of being a ‘star’. He was just a monster of a player— technically the most skilled drummer I’ve ever seen play. Rest peacefully Mr. Peart...

I have such a heavy heart. Sad and blindsided. God bless him.

Neil Peart was one of the best drummers and musicians of all time. Talk about a life of significance. How many people has he inspired to play drums? Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands. Even if they gave up, he was the guy that made them want to play and create and just try. He was a once in a lifetime talent. He was to drums what Eddie Van Halen was to guitar- genius and inspirational.

Godspeed Sir. Thank you for sharing your talent.

One would hope that after all the pain that Mr. Peart went through two decades ago he would've been granted an easy, painless exit from this life. But that was not in the cards.

I'd like to believe that he's in peace now, re-united with those that he tragically lost back then.

RIP, sir. You most certainly have influenced and touched many souls that grieve for you today.

It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and band mate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three and a half year battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). We ask that friends, fans, and media alike understandably respect the family’s need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and difficult time. Those wishing to express their condolences can choose a cancer research group or charity of their choice and make a donation in Neil Peart’s name. Rest in peace brother. Neil Peart September 12, 1952 – January 7, 2020
