R.I.P. Neil Peart

Well, sh?t.

That’s a massive blow to the gut.

I’ve been listening to and learning Rush tunes since I started playing bass in the early 80s. Nothing but respect and deep gratitude to Neil Peart for his music and lyrics - an amazing body of ever interesting work over a lifetime from a true artist.

I never met the man but I’m tearing up over his passing...

Seriously, watch the Rush docu, Beyond The Lighted Stage. It pops up on Netflix every so often.
Always knew I would never play in a band like them, nevertheless, I have always respected them...about 5 years ago, someone here mentioned this film & it just blew me away. 3 of the coolest guys you would ever hope to meet. Check it out.

Thanks for the reminder. It’s still on Netflix. Time to watch it for the 3rd time, and most likely break down.

He was changing the course of music while I was in diapers, and gave me faith these last few years that you don't always have to fire the drummer.

In all seriousness, what a monster musician all around, and what a towering figure in music. The world was made a better place by him living his best life and giving what he loved to create to us. RIP.

Yeah this is a tough loss. Even as a kid I knew he was perhaps the best drummer in the world. And his drums solos were musical, not just a chop slinging fest.

Shocking news! Incredible drummer. Every time I listen to a Rush song with Neal on the skins, I literally shake my head in awe. Mind blowing drummer! Thanks for all of your contributions to the music world. A legend in every sense of the word. RIP Mr. Peart.

I will say this and stand by it: I've always been convinced that exceptional drummers inspire bass players to play exceptional bass lines. I know Geddy was a great bass player. However, Neil Pert was the caliber of drummer, who wrote songs that yielded the best from his counterparts! As bass players, I think we all can agree that he was the holy grail of drummers! I know I'm a long time bass player who is actually a frustrated drummer. Therefore, every time I hear a Rush tune, I listen to his playing and say...WOW!

What’s remarkable is the way he appeals not just to drummers, but all musicians. Guitarists and bassists, too. Everyone I play with and everyone I’m reading is just gutted by this.

There’s been so many of these heartbreaking RIP threads it’s easy to get numb. But this one is a particularly hard gut punch. For those of us who loved his music, not only did we lose Neil, but now we have to come to grips with knowing we also lost Rush.
