A three year battle with brain cancer. Now we know the real reason why he stopped playing a while back.

And gone at age 67, the same age that Chris Squire died (my bass hero).

I'm not even a HUGE Rush fan (although I am a fan) but this strikes me to the core. What a brilliant man. If any drummer's (and lyricist) death should put TB in mourning, this is the one.

Seriously, watch the Rush docu, Beyond The Lighted Stage. It pops up on Netflix every so often.
Always knew I would never play in a band like them, nevertheless, I have always respected them...about 5 years ago, someone here mentioned this film & it just blew me away. 3 of the coolest guys you would ever hope to meet. Check it out.

Rush was huge during my teen and my "lost years." They were the favorite band of my best friend, who died when we were both 20 (car wreck). I was never a huge fan until I watched the "Beyond the Lighted Stage" documentary. I finally "got" the band. Like Peart, I ride a motorcycle (a BMW even), often to work through things.

On 7Dec, Steely Jam played a gig here in Santa Monica (where Neil passed - and where I live). As we were packing up, I told my friend and vocalist Mikey to book a tee time - I took golf back up at the beginning of 2019 and he and I played often at our local course. I hadn't played for a couple of months trying to get some tendonitis to heal. I said I was off on Monday, he said, "I'll book a time - love you brother," and we left the venue. The next day I got a call from one of our backing vocalists - Mikey had died in his sleep. He was 61.

Tomorrow night we are playing a tribute show at the same venue, with a couple of friends sitting in on lead vocals and some other guest musicians. We had a rehearsal Wed and it was good to see the rest of the band (we last saw each other at his funeral service some weeks back) and make some music. I figured at some point all of this would really hit me as the holidays were crazy with us trying to close on a house, end of year work, etc. I didn't really have time and space to process things.

I'm driving around doing errands today and the local station is playing Rush tune after Rush tune. I think that's odd - then the DJ comes on to say that Neil Peart died. Well, the dam finally broke. It'll be a long night.

God speed Mr. Peart, and God speed to Mikey. I'll keep making music until it is my time. Hug your loved ones - time doesn't stand still.

For years I passed up seeing Rush for no good reason. I think it was because they always seemed to be on tour and accessible. They came to our town I don’t know how many times. You just think it’s never going to end. My FIL asked me if I would go with him on the Time Machine tour. I was so glad I went and seen them. Seeing each of them in their element was an amazing experience. They produced an unimaginable amount of sound between the three of them. I finally understood why so many people idolized Geddy. I was in the music store, checking out a Fender Vintera Fifties Precision. I was too surprised to be shocked. I think Mr. Peart will literally Rest In Peace. My gut tells me he never really had peace on this Earth.
