My favorite drummer from my favorite band. I'm so sad right now. Neil, you were a humble soul and inspired countless musicians to push the limits of our abilities in the hopes of having even just a small fraction of your brilliance. May you rest in peace!

Heavy news for me on so many levels. Such a tremendously talented and wonderful person.
His music and words have been such a big part of my life for so many years. So glad I got to see him play live 5 times but regret not catching more tours.

Devastated by this news. Rush is the entire reason I play bass, and Neil was a huge part of that. I'm too bummed out to say much more. RIP, Neil.

They may not have been my favorite band (although I always liked and appreciated them) but they may have been my favorite individuals in a band. Each one of them seems a gentlemanly, genuine, and good guy.

Condolences to Neil's family and to the surviving members of Rush. What a loss this was -- Neil was an absolutely incredible musician and lyricist.

Thought this would be appropriate. My son had to do an "AY" project for school which basically means he had to conduct an experiment he decided that he (we) would build an amp and measure the impact of putting the same amp and speaker in different size enclosures. My son is also a 14 yro, classic rock obsessed guitar player who loves ridiculous humor. So Beaker became a character in the video presentation for this project, and he built his own Beaker costume as well. He then proceeded to record all the opening parts to Spirit of the Radio (except the drums - he programmed those and the video is just him pretending ) and do this video (with no assistance) as the opening sequence.

I'm really proud of him because he is constantly doing stuff like this, but I also thought this would show the multi-generational impact of what Rush (and Neil) did.

1981, Philadelphia Spectrum, Moving Pictures tour. I wasn’t even old enough to drive. My first ever rock concert. It was a big part of the reason I headed down this musical path. I was, and still am, astounded at how much music these three guys could make. Thank you, Professor, for all the lesssons.

Just caught this somewhere else. Not many hit home for me - this one does. He was a big part of my growing up. Ehhh...

Same here. I’m sitting here eating a pizza with my wife and 20 year old daughter telling them the story of seeing Rush in 1985 at the Richfield Coliseum when I was 15.
My buddy and I went to go find his brother to buy us beer. As we were making our way back to our seats Neil Peart starts his drum solo!
OMG (as the kids say)
SO blown away with (hard data recall moment) a 20 minute solo on his rotating surround double+ kit!!!
Quite a memory! Thirty five years later and that impression is still burning strong.
The guy was a machine and a wizard.

Oh, man...

Neil belongs to a musical lineage of beings that accompany us throughout our lives and appear, to our eyes, to be immortal and made of something beyond flesh and blood.

Every death is sad, undoubtedly. But some deaths also kill a piece of us.

Rest in peace, Neil Peart.
