R your Drop tuning guitards blowing speakers... yet?

Don't know how old the 810 is you use, but the original design started rolling off at 80 Hz.
I will have to second deshi00 in that "near max volume" would be the trigger for the drop tuning blowing speakers not designed for those frequencies.
No professional guitarist I have ever played with used such tricks to cover their lack of ability. They are called musicians. Just IMHO and IME. Pick an instrument and learn to play it well to become a musician, if you can't then you picked the wrong instrument? If your ego gets in the way of reality, find a new "sound" to cover up that fact? Just a personal opinion shared by musicians I have been associated with, so take it for what its worth......or not.
I may be confused but are you asserting that any guitarist that uses anything other then standard tuning or more accurately any form of lowered or drop tuning. Isn't a "professional" and is using "tricks" to cover up his lack of skill and ability?
If so that's some of the craziest stuff I've ever heard. And coming from a primarily guitarist point of view, yes guitard is a stupid term but then again I've never found any of the jokes musicians regularly make about their counterparts in making music in any way funny.
There is crappy, useless and unskilled musicians of every type of instrument but I've never seen a need to paint them all with the same brush.
Overall I agree with jungleheat, in particular this part of his post.

As for the original question I never heard of this ever happening. I don't personally play a lot of crazy drop tuned stuff but I've never had a problem with drop C nor has a friend of mine who plays down to B and A.

I think you misunderstand it's meaning. If a guitarist is not ********, I refer to him/her as a guitarist. I've been fortunate to play with many amazing guitarists.
Guitard means "this guy is a ****** who plays guitar." I have fortunately not played with too many of those.
Ah, well, certainly for me it doesn't replace the word "guitarist." It's very specific to morons who play guitar. For me.

Kinda reminds me of people who say that they only call bad black people the n-word. Like that isn't in anyway offensive to other black people.

On the original topic, I recently had a Hartke A100 blow out. It happened the week after letting a drop tuned guitarist who couldn't show up with gear use it. Most likely a coincidence, but I keep wondering...

Seriously though, I find it really funny that everyone gets in an uproar about a word and yet continuously people are implying that having more than 6 strings on a guitar, or using drop tuning categorically eliminates the possibility that someone could have any talent whatsoever.
