Racist friends

You judge folks every day if even by simply choosing who your friends are. If someone's views are a problem to me, I choose not to interact with them. Where's the problem?

I'm not saying people shouldn't do it. I know they do, just as racists choose their friends based on racial judgments.

I do, however, think the condemnation is a bit strong.

you could make friends that make your racist friends uncomfortable.. like some black friends.. maybe they just say racist things cuz they think its funny or because they've never met people of other races.. i didnt meet a black person until highschool and didnt befriend one until my senior year.. just saying fear of the unknown maybe

my sisters black husband tells me the best black jokes btw.. there's one reason to have black friends

Thanks for putting yourself out there in a way to make a valid point. I've observed this; there are a lot of times when someone make you go "hmm...I wonder if that guy is a racist?" when the truth is he just doesn't understand black people. That can happen when you never see any except for on TV

I personally feel it's wrong to hold someone's view against him and judge him based on that.
It's as bad as the racism itself.

Let me ask you this..
Would you let your 13 year old son spend a camping weekend with someone who "held the view" that sex between men and young boys was fine?

Would you let your teenage daughter go to a party at the home of a man that you knew "held the view" that girls are just freaks waiting to be turned out?

Would you want your wife working in an establishment where the men there "held the view" that women didn't need to be in the workplace anyway ... they all need to be home and kept barefoot and pregnant?

Or would you rather let your loved ones and prefer yourself to be in the company of folks who "held the view" that "The Earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof.." or "Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." or “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

Views are important... some lead to life.. some lead to death and it is up to all of us to choose the walk we take and the people we will walk with along that way. I will walk with someone who holds racist views only long enough to see whether or not I can change those views.. if I can great.. we can continue to walk together.. if not I am proceeding to my destination ... where those views do not exist.

Since when is condemning someone for a view correct, ever?
What is wrong with a racist person who hurts no one with his racism?

Wow... you remind me of the guy in the GEICO commercial.

RACISM HURTS EVERYONE

Not only the object of a racists views.. by the subsequent actions of said racist that will surely follow their racist thinking ... but it also hurts the racist as well... Just look around you at the world we live in.

I told my daughters and my sons.. love who you like.. just make sure they love you..

Is this a plausible scenario?

This is an interesting couple of posts. Cabazon poses some valid questions. Phil can't even imagine a racist person that doesn't hurt anyone. So every person who holds racist beliefs hurts people? Even if they only share their racist views with their racist friends and if they never physically harm anyone in the name of racisim? I'm quite sure there are plenty of racists that share their beliefs with those of like minds, but are either too cowardly to act by word or deed, or maybe just have restraint and know that if they do they will pay a price so they don't. Who are they hurting? I've never been hurt by what's going on in someone else's head. Except maybe my ex-wife.

Are we going to have thought police? We are all free to associate with and believe whatever we want to. Remember, your freedom and my freedom extend to the point where we step on someone else's toes. As long as we don't step on someones toes, we can do or believe what we want. If you have this most dedicated racist in the world, and they never harm anyone with word or deed, is anyone harmed by what is in their head? Let's put away the rightous indignation and requisite condemnation of racisim for just a minute and think: Do you REALLY want to start mandating that people think and hold beliefs according to rules? If so, who's going to make those rules? Now I'm sure many would say sure, we need to stamp out racisim and if people aren't free to think racist thoughts that's just fine, it's a fair price to pay. Then what? What's the next view or belief that must be stamped out? What if it's something you hold dear or as a sacred truth?

If people want to be racist, fine, let them be racist. Don't associate with them if you don't like it (this method of dealing with racists works fine for me). But don't jump on the very slippery slope of ruling, controlling, or stamping out thoughts and beliefs you don't like. The next thought or belief to be stamped out may be one of yours.

this was my thoughts on the subject but i couldnt formulate the words to put it in text so well. so i didnt post. thanx.

There's a huge difference between (a) an actual racist who holds racist beliefs, has racist thoughts, and is loud about expressing them, and (b) someone who has no racist beliefs, to whom skin color and ethnic genetic heritage are meaningless, but who likes to engage in tongue-in-cheek, extremely politically incorrect humor involving racial stereotypes. And even among type b, there are those who are discreet about it and those who make such jokes at the wrong times and places.

People do not live in an isolated world and often times they have the power to make decisions about the well being of others or the ability of others to live a decent life style. With a racsist at the controls do you think they will make descisons based on their racist views or they will suspend their racist views when acting in an official capacity?

Would you want a friend of yours that hangs out with wanna-be pedofiles hanging around your little sister, brother, child, niece, nephew? Of course you wouldn't. Would you hang out with such people? Of course you wouldn't.

Got a girlfriend or wife? Do you think if you had hatred for women (i.e. thoughts in your head aka something you believe in) that that would color or effect the relationships you would have with women?

The belief that another group of people are inferior to you merely because they look different than you do is something that needs to be controlled and stamped out.

On the way to church? Thump em back:
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

If I get offended I speak plainly in response--hopefully politley but that aint always the case

being stuck in a car like that, well i think you ahve a right to say something. sometimes a simple "be cool" is good enough

It is impossible to control and stamp out other peoples beliefs IMHO. It doesn't matter what those beliefs are to me. It's just wrong to try and control someones way of thinking.

If you can create a racist paradigm you can also create an anti-racist one. Make sense?
