I've got a Peavey T-Max head. Its pretty deep in size and pretty heavy. I need either a rack bag or a rack case to carry it. Would the rack bags hold up to this or should I just go with a hard case?

Rack it or bag it?

I use a Protec rack bag. Works awesome - not nearly as expensive as a solid rack case, but it does the job and I can sling it over my shoulder. It also has a pocket for cables. None of which I can do with a hard rack case.
I would recommend bags if your not planning on doing extensive touring.
Easier to fit in your car, keeps your equipment safe, clean, dry and all, yet doesn't take nearly as much space or add as much weight as flight cases and such.

Relatively light weight. The "rack" portion can be removed from the bag. The front flap is large enough to hold a foot pedal and padded so it protects the face of my BX500.
No complaints so far.

Rondomusic.com actually has some soft rack cases. They look pretty decent and the prices are definitely right.
They sell some pretty good flight cases on ebay. For less than 200$ depending on what size you want.

for me, its kind of a toss up.
i use rack cases for most of my stuff since i can use the top of them to set Link Removed and any other effect pedal that i have ( i only use them on two songs and i don't like them on the floor).
but rack bags are very convenient since they usually have a shoulder strap and don't inflict damage to your car's interior as easily.

I bought gator rack bag 4space and it has held up well for me.solid build heavy duty zippers.I have lmiii and carvin so I wanted to keep everything as lightweight as possible racked.I play every weekend and sometimes through the week so it gets alot of use and has never failed me.I just dont see the need for heavy duty rack cases unless you are touring and your gear is stacked in the back of a semi after every show.
my gator has very little flex,very strong case. I have a bag made by a company called "kases" and it feels a little iffy.
This head is extremely heavy, it measures 16 in deep too. Not sure what the actual weight is, but its atleast twice as heavy as my old carvin R600. Will a bag this much or is it just asking for trouble?
If the head is seriously heavy, it will demolish a rack bag in no time. Been there/done that. Bags are fine for micro/light heads and effects and whatnot but not heavy amps. I have a GK 800RB in a Gator 4 space bag and I'd say that's about as heavy as it will stand- the head weighs 25lbs. YMMV.
I have a warwick profet IV with about 5 little fragile toggle switches on the front , I love the look of a 'naked' 2u amp on a cab but , bit the bullet and got a SKB 2u case .....im a lot more confident now , besides I can leave the power cord and speaker connected all the time saving wear and tear on the sockets !
