If setting up as simple as turning screws until everything feels right, then why do people recommend basses get "professionally setup"?
Experience.
And that is exactly why I want to use precise measurements the first few times. I have no experience setting up my own bass. After I've done it a few times using pain-staking detail and fine measurements, I should start to feel the differences and be able to adjust purely from feel.
I'm also not talking about just setting up a bass that is already in great playing condition. I'd like to get into modding cheap basses, as a hobby. Some of those basses will need a lot more adjusting than others, and I want to be able to setup any bass.
yes, you absolutely want to work with real measurements, so you can get a feel for what consistently works and what doesn't.
a radius gauge won't really help you with that.

Hi there,
Mostly of my basses are Yamaha 5 and 6 String, and even if I used to work with stewmac Understring Radius Gauges, they goes just to 20".
Does anybody know where to get 23 5/8" , 25"?
Thanks.
What are you asking? I think you're confusing radius gauges with radiused sanding blocks.
