Rant - crazy mom

How often does you mom tend to do things along these lines? Not neccessarily to the extent of selling your gear and taking money out of your account. But does she do little things along these lines on a fairly regular basis?

E.g. withdrawl of privelages for very minor infractions or accusations and subsequent punishement for supposed things you have done.

Also another question, does she also tend to suffer mood swings i.e. she will be happy-go-lucky one moment and then really depressed or unresponsive the next?

Also, has there been any history of mental illness of any sort from her side of the family or significantly traumatic incidents that might have occured which could have affected her in a negative manner?

Diagnosing Manic-Depression over the internet from 1 side of the story without talking to the patient?

Yeah I know...the best advice anyone has given right?

REGARDLESS of who it was i'd bloody hit them...hard, if they did that to me.

The other night I did a gig and some tosser kicked my amp over, smashing the home-made 4-way it was plugged into, if he hadn't been ejected from the place I would have smacked his head in for touching MY gear...now the same thing applies when someone sells something without your consent doesn't it?

its a sod he can't do what I've said...reckon you should just ask your dad in a week and try to get him to help ya talk your mum round

Yes, we know that hitting people is always the best way to resolve a dispute. I mean it's been in use for countless ages, right? I mean, simian life still uses it as a method of problem solving, so it must be good if its natural.

I'm glad you'd consider abusing your parents. I would guess you have a wonderful, loving and fulfilling family life, and I would guess that family events are a blast, if you can keep your head down.

I concur with my esteemed compatriot, Cheezewiz.

Well since there as of this point in time only the one side.

Also I am merely trying to find out more information regarding the whole situation and since there is nothing as of this point to really cover the parents side if the incident I am trying to offer up a suggestion as another cause of the whole over-reaction which it comes across as from what I have read.

Basically, I think we need to hear the whole thing, which has been said countless time already.

Edit: I was think more along the lines of a potential case of bi-polar disorder...............but I somehow doubt that this is anything relating to a mental imbalance on the parents side causing the problem.

That makes a little more sense. Bi-Polar is the politically correct term for manic depression BTW.
My daughter when she was that age and younger had a habit of telling everyone in the neighborhood I kept no food in the house cause she liked fast food.
One of my neighbors came in the house to put some beer in the fridge, stepped back and said" Whoa, I could eat out of hear for 2 weeks" I asked him what he was talking about and he told me she had been telling everyone I kept no food in the house. I'm lucky nobody called Child Protective Services on me for neglect.
Sometimes there's another side.

OK, finally talked to my mom. She said that aside from the calculator incident, the teacher told her that I am :defiant" in class ie I don't do the problems that he asks us to do in class. This rarely happens and only happens because I'm doing HW in class, not because I'm "defiant".

I asked her if I went in and cleared up the calculator incident with the teacher, and maybe got the detention erased (possible?) if she would fix my gear situation. She said that she was just angry because a teacher had to call her and that even if the teacher called her back and said the calculator incident was forgiven she wouldn't get my gear back.

I was like :eyebrow:

This is so gay.

She also won't let me go to the Jauqo X show today, either. This is ridiculous. It's starting to sink in that I won't have a rig for a while unless I have like a fundraiser

I might be able to squeeze a little avatar 112 out of selling my pedals and SR 16, though. :hmm:

Man that is mega craptacular. I have no idea what I'd do in your situation, I guess the best thing is to try and prove to her just how much your music means to you, I dunno how to go about that. For a start, I'd go ahead and sort things out with the teacher anyway, get him to ring her up and all that stuff, that should mellow her mood a little. Just keep feeding her positive information such as that and eventually she'll feel guilty about being so harsh on you (if she's anything like normal parents) and at least make some effort to reconcile with you. Oh and also, if you haven't already done, apologise, I mean really apologise, not a half assed sorry, you've admitted here that you were being stupid, just tell her it was a stupid mistake and that you're truely sorry for the trouble it's caused everyone. That should at least mellow her temper a bit, strikes me she's currently in the phase of being defensive about her actions, even though she may realise deep down she was out of line, she isn't ready to admit it yet. Admitting you've screwed up should help things along.

Alex, when you are 'defiant' in class, *you* are the one 'stealing' time and educational opportunity from your fellow students. Instead of barking at you about doing your HW instead of the assigned classwork, your teacher would much rather help the kid two seats over who is totally struggling and needs to learn the stuff on order to pull his SAT score up or something.

That education is worth more than any bass rig, and if you're taking that away... think about it.

Even if the teacher is not the best teacher, it just doesn't matter. It's not your job to "punish" the teacher and the other students.

No doubt your mother has dealt you a huge punishment, but if even something as hgue as that is not pushing you to *really* think and reconsider your behavior in school, then she may well be justified.

Full disclosure: I'm a (relatively) young bass player (28), but also a parent and, yes, a High School English teacher.

Well, of ourse I'm going to stop doing what I was doing, regardless of what my mom does to my gear. Why do parents always think that kids don't care about their lives?

OK. Glad to hear that you're making the change. Don't let most of the anti-Alex's mom knee-jerk posts on here poison you against your Mom or your teacher... think of this as starting from square one, and go positive. Put it to yr mom like this: "I understand why you took the bass stuff; what can I do to earn your help in getting a new rig?"

She'll just be stubborn if you just go with "You owe me a ______..." y'know? Good luck.
