Rant - crazy mom

I remember when my mom tried to take my bass.
TRIED is the key word.
She had to call the cops after she broke the gig bag strap.
Ah, the good ol' days. Don't miss them at all, and I still think my mom is a nut job. I'm thankful for some things she did for me and others not so much. She taught me how to be an adult by pissing me off enough to get the hell away from home.
Just know that your mom is most definatly a nut job and theres a lot of her in you.
Good luck and remember crack is wack.

And legally until you're 18 your mom can take whatever the hell away from you she wants. Just don't hurt yourself while trying to get back at her.

Yeah, I'm sure it wasn't all my mom. I think that my teacher totally exagerrated some minute thing that I did.

She still hasn't told me what the call was about :hmm:

I bet she made the whole thing up because she was tired of hearing you wank away on your half stack. :smug:

But seriously,

If I were you I would be furious and probably on the way down to the local pawn shop with her jewelry collection, but that's just me.

Best advice in this thread.

i had a slightly similar experience to you once, except my bass got smashed up in the street instead of sold.

i will admit i did something pretty stupid to deserve that (it involves beer and me being about 5 years under the legal drinking age), but i would have rather been grounded or something. but my parents dont believe in grounding. instead, they took away something that they gave to me and demolished it right outside of my house. it was a privilege to have that bass but i broke the rules, so out it went. oh well, tough cheese, life goes on. 3 years later, i worked a lot, made money, bought basses, bought a car...i feel independent. i like the fact that i dont have to depend on my parents for everything...they see that i am able to take care myself. and now they are running out of stuff to take away from me...:D

i guess this wasnt a very similar story after all, since you didnt seem to do anything wrong. just thought i'd share. good luck.

I feel sorry for you man. I think that if she doesn't tell you what you did wrong, she has no right to punish you. In my book that qaulifies as abuse. I'd say when she's cooled off, use the thing with the 4.0, you earned the money for the gear, and tell her that punishing you without any known reason is wrong as your argument.

Best of luck man.....

Dude...that really, really sucks. Reminds me of how great my parents are. Here are some potential thoughts on what you could do as retaliation:

-Collect everything she considers valuable, take it to a pawn shop, and sell it. Then tell her what you've done, in a furious rage, under the alliby that "you recieved a call from her work telling you that she had done something bad" (but don't say what it is). :D

-A good ol classic, just destroy everything in the house. There isn't much she could do to that. :spit:

-Move out. Shack up with a buddy, and tell her you're not coming back until she buys back your rig. In a month she'll miss her baby so much she'll spring for a complete EA head/cab setup :hyper:

Just some food for thought.

Sounds like my mom, but she didn't go off and sell my gear. She'll just hit me with a 2x4. I miss those days.:spit::crying:
This is sad, but in a different way.

Maybe it's time for a family discussion. A "Mom, I can't ever trust you again" seems to be up in line.
On the topic of things I recommend not as a joke, this is #1.

Edit: Or talk to your teacher. In fact, find out what he told her about, and if it is the calculator thing, get you and your friend to confront him and tell him the truth. Once he gets it, tell him what your mom did as a result of your call. Unless he, too, is a nutjob, he will call and admit to his sins, leaving your mom with no choice but to bite the bullet and compensate you. Bingo, it's the adults fault! :smug:

I gotta ask, why did you do this? For god sakes, that's a sweet rig! At least try to defend your baby.

Yeah I thought I misunderstood it at first, and then I was like, wait, there's no way she could carry that thing. Why'd you put it in the car? The only way my amp would have gone into her car is if it were going through her windshield.

ummm... what???? she sold your stuff? dude... if my parents did that i'd be pissed beyond explanation. i don't even ever get pissed for more than like 15 minutes at a time (and this is super pissed mode), but if they sold my stuff i'd just be like... yea... angry for more than 15 minutes.

You may want to go to the the school counselor and tell your story, or call a child abuse hotline. I think this may qualify as psychological abuse. Be aware, that if you do that, there is no turning back. But if your situation is truly unbearable, it may be the only way out.

well, before you retaliate, i'd like to know exactly what you did...if your mom hasn't done this type of thing before, maybe you aren't telling us something that you did. if your mom has done this type of thing before, you probably wouldn't tell us about it...i've been your age before, and i remember telling my friends about my parents, i may have left out some details about what i did to deserve it ;)

of course, MG is right too, if she did that for a small thing, that could be abuse...be careful
