*rant* I hate the new Windows Media Player!!

Windows Media Player makes no sense. It's the one thing MS makes that doesn't look or navigate like a Windows product. Their "library" approach is a huge pain in the butt. just let me open my files - I KNOW where they are.

And iTunes? Completely non-intuitive for PC users, and forces you to comb through level after level to find anything. I hate it.

I agree. I think they are as bad as each other.

Yes, I dislike WMP myself, but iTunes seems to have exactly the same sort of irritating issues that just get in the way of enjoying your music. I know a lot of other folks like it, but I think this is this personal preference is all about which player you find it easiest to get to do what you want. For me, Winamp is still the best player by far, as I said.

WMP 11 and iTunes sucks. I use WMP 10 and I always have click hard on "no" when it tells me "A new version is out! :hyper: Do you want to install it?"

iTunes suck because it of three main reasons:
1. It doesn't allow you to sort by album artist,
2. It doesn't find new audio files in the library on my computer automatically like WMP,
3. It makes copies of every .wma audio file. Some time ago I found it had been making three mp3 copies of every wma file I had in my library, because of instead of adding every single new album to the library, I added the same main folder to the library. I should perhaps delete those wma files to go around the problem but I haven't done it yet...

I'm not a huge fan of itunes, it's interface is weird, and I am just now getting to the point where I can find my stuff...it's a pain to have to import and export, and why does everything have to be a "playlist"? I want to play X song, from my list of music. I don't want it sorted by cover art, or by genre. Why does everything have to be a database anymore?

No you aren't. I have all of my music imported to it, the files stay put, but it knows where they are and uses the ID3 tags to classify them. From there I just go through the list of artists usually and it works pretty well. Probably the easiest interface as far as a media management program I've used so far.

Hmmmm....I have no issues with WMP11. I am listening to some music with it right now. I prefer it to iTunes or WinAmp. I just turn off all the automatic organizing features and pointed the app to the main folder where I store music. No complaints at all for me.

musikCube is nice. I find that both iTunes and Windows Media player tend to be resource intensive and generally bloated applications. I use musikCube on my notebook and iTunes on my desktop, and that's only when I have to (transferring purchased music and so on).

As far as foobar2000, its a program that really requires time to get accustomed to. I am not too big on custom configurations so I got rid of it fairly quickly.

That is exactly why I don't bother using media player, or itunes, or any piece of software that expects to organise my 'library' of music. I stick my music in a folder structure that makes sense to me, and use winamp to play what I want to listen to. I find it much easier and I feel like I have total control. I really don't like the library structures that other programs use.

I pretty much do the same thing

I have three main folders:

• orchestral - classical - baroque - martial
• swing - big band - jive - vintage - etc
• rock - pop - electro - everything else

And within each of those (well, within the swing and rock folders, because I don't have much classical at all) I have a [miscellaneous] folder and then 26 folders, A through Z. The misc. folder is for compilations and random stuff, and in the lettered folders I have folders for individual artists (unless I have only one track by a particular artist, then I don't bother creating a folder for it, it just resides in the lettered folder.

I use Windows Media Player usually, for listening purposes. I'll just go through my folders and drag what I want to hear into the player. But If I want to drag large amounts, like several thousand, into that player and listen to it on shuffle, it takes forever for it to get ready to play, so for that I use iTunes, which is much quicker. I don't use any of the library functions of any media player.

A handy application to have is called Mp3tag. It's free, and it's an mp3 tag editing program, where you can edit all the parameters that media players organize song files by. I really hate how media players (and portable mp3 players) force you to organize your files. I just want to be able to use my system of file folders, I don't want stupid arbitrary classifications and ratings etc.

At least you don't have to deal with the zune software, the updated version took songs from different cds for no apparent reason and just mixed them together under certain album names. I'm still re-organizing my songs to this day.

Am I seriously the only person here who has no problems with WMP11? Seriously, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

I agree. But then I don't really use the library that much. I just create my own playlists from my folders and use those. But honestly I like it.

BTW I would suggest using 'Artist' instead of 'Genre' so sort your songs. Much eaiser.
