Rat fur?? Why?

It seems to me that any covering will suffer if you don't look after it.

I had a cover for my carpet covered Epifani 410. It never picked up a hair and both cats ignored it in the 2 years I owned it.

I've got two EV PA cabs covered in black rat fur. They've been bounced around for the last 30 years and are in very good condition. The stuff has worn better than any tolex coverd cab.

I also have an ATA case for my SVT that is covered in the stuff. The aluminum frame and steel corners are pretty beat up and scratched. The rat fur remains looking like new.

When it gets dirty, you can wash rat fur, brush it, and vacuum it. It bounces back.

I don't care for the look at all but it has served me very well.
