I had a behringer, and pooF, stoped working under a 30 day warranty, got a new one no cost, ****er just died speaker blew, still under a year warranty and it got stolen, I was kinda happy it did, I didn't even report it. if you wanna go cheap, get something good off craigslist.

I use that Ampeg head in a hard rock/metal band. It does great, and covers a lot more head room than people give it credit for doing. I do use a Behringer BDI21 to beef it up a bit, and for overdrive. That little 30 dollar pedal brings out a lot of life in that amp, and although I love that pedal. I would stay away from Behringer's cabs!

Some Behringer stuff is o.k., but I find all their instrument speakers (both aluminium and paper cone ones) are, ... errr ..., "not to my taste". I played a gig where, for gits 'n' shiggles, the support band's Bassist and I stacked my Eden on top of his Behringer and I could hear the "not to my taste"-ness coming from the Behringer.

+1 Total turds. Don't let the price and cool look suck you in. They're junk.

Are you playing a five string? Unless you spend big money, you're B will sound horrible through a budget 4x10. Especially at high volume. I'm a huge SWR fan. Check out their working pro series. It's SWR's "budget" line but still SWR quality. I had a 4x10 and 1x15 stack I abused for years in clubs, vans, yard parties, pick-up trucks, etc etc etc. I even played on a boat once. Those speakers saw everything but outter space and always held up like a tank.

Anyway, you can pick them up used for fair price. Their all over Ebay and Craigslist in larger metro areas. I'd go 1x15 and 2x10 for a fuller range if you're shopping on a budget.

Yeah that head takes a lot of slack around here, but I stepped out into the crowd in a medium sized club and was surprised that I had incredible head room. It filled it at perfect volume and had plenty against a singer through a decent PA 300 watts or so, and a hard hitting drummer with a mic'ed kick drum, and a guitar player going through a 220 watt Randall.

I stronly suggest NOT going with the rig you choose, especially the B.. cabinet. There's plenty of better stuff (in fact anything could be called better than this). In your budget, some stuff to check:

cabs (cheap 4x10): Gallien-Krueger 410BLX-II, Ashdown MAG410,

Head (500 watts): Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0, Hartke LH500,

Or if you want to go with a great combo: GK MB212 (2x12 speakers, 500 watts and light).

GKs cheaper cabs are said to be just as good as the high range ones just without all the fanciness. Sort of straight to the point cabs as it were. I have no personal experience with them though, so it would be best trying them out for yourself.
