Slightly on topic...has anybody ever used this rattlecan paint?
Roth Metal Flake
It seems like a nice way to get a good metal flake. Kind of pricey, but it seems to have all the elements. Just wondering how simple (or not) it is to use.

I have been super interested in this stuff. They show an example or two of a guitar finish with it so I can't see why it won't work. I just haven't been able to decide if I want to go a heavy flake finish like that or something more traditional.
I haven’t used that but I’ve watched their vids. The paint looks really nice.
I may have already shown this here? Rescued a Mike Dirnt body- repaired & painted with Sonic Blue from Guitar ReRanch- added MD RW neck, Hipshot lollypops, Fender ‘62 pu, bridge cover, 3-ply pg, etc.

I bought a vintage bass from the guy who owns the paint store in Fremont CA that sells this line and is partnered with Ed "Big Daddy" Roths son. Never used it but considering his roots, I suspect it's tops!

I had to repair the points with Bondo. Original color was boring ol black. New color is Rust-Oleum Neon Green Gloss, and I replaced the stock harness with. Tone Monster and replaced the stock bridge with a Hipshot Kick-Ass that I had for a project that never happened.

It's a little brighter sounding than I remember it being before I repainted and added all the new parts. I dont really know if its the bridge, the harness or the fact that I really dont know how old the strings were on it before. I bought this bass last summer at a pawn shop for $150 and the strings that were on it were the ones I took off when I disassembled it for paint. I like it though. I like a little snappy-er, twangy-er sound.

The color is ocean turquoise.
I have. The Roth stuff is great and east to use. My first project with it, I used a two top coat can product that failed to completely polymerize . Needless to say I had to scrap the project. I'd use all their stuff again though, just not the 2K lacquer.
I was like the lone negative reviewer on Amazon for that product for a while. I got a few hateful comments. I talked about it elsewhere and and despite following the instructions implicitly and having background in the use of two part urethanes and the analysis of them I was criticized for saying anything negative about it. I even bought a different can from another source and had the same issue. I think for the most part it is likely that there was an issue with formulation for a brief period of time. Others have had a lot of success using it. It was summer and I painted in a tented area outside. The humidity was checked to make sure it was low enough, but even so that might have had a deleterious effect on the cure rate. The problem was three weeks went by and the stuff was still soft, very soft. Movable with your finger soft. The ratio of A/B block was likely off and whatever catalyst they used was not promoting polymerization sufficiently. Needless to say I was pissed. Roth has some great stuff though. It is worth the cash if you want to get a great flake and don't have a gun and compressor.
If you want to do flake on the cheap I highly recommend Krylon Glitter Blast with a Fusion overcoat. Fusion is a great workable 1 part clearcoat. Sands easy and goes on nice with a very durable finish. Also builds really well on successive coats.
I have tried the Glitterblast before, but went through three cans and none sprayed. I have had good results with the Testors Glitter paints in the smaller cans you use on model cars and such. Great coverage and goes on pretty glossy on its own. I do like some of the colors that Glitterblast offers though. That purple is especially nice.
Im thinking about trying a project with the Roth stuff soon though.
